HR2640 Signed Into Law
A little birdy told me that HR2640 has Bush’s John Hancock now affixed to it. It is now law. I’ll let this be an open thread for folks to have their say, good or ill.
The right of the citizens to bear arms in defense of themselves and the State …

Evan Nappen has another editorial defending against attacks by folks less than happy with the passage of HR2640. For those of you who don’t know, Evan is probably the foremost legal expert on New Jersey’s gun laws; not a simple task, they are monstrously complicated, and even the lawmakers don’t really understand that body of … Continue reading “Evan Nappen on HR2640 Passage”
Supposedly it’ll pass the Senate tonight, and head to Bush for signature. I’ve said before that I don’t believe this bill is a bad deal, and I remain unopposed to it. I know a lot of people have concerns about this bill, some legitimate, some not so much. I’m prepared to eat crow if this … Continue reading “HR2640 Passing Tonight”
Bitter gives us an update. My main fear with this bill is that, if it gets stalled, and starts to be debated, that will provide opportunities for anti-gun amendments. Fortunately, so far, it’s only provided opportunities for amendments that are unobjectionable.
Ryan presents a somewhat differing view than I’ve been espousing here in terms of HR2640.  I say somewhat different because I do think the current law is completely inadequate, and that more still needs to be done, even after HR2640 “restoration of rights process” is in place. But as much as I do wish we … Continue reading “More on HR2640”
Other considerations to consider when discussing who really won what in regards to HR2640 is what the NRA gains from this politically. It won’t just be the Brady’s who can declare victory. If anything, Brady is more of a loser here. For one, you have pro-gun guys like Boucher, who are Democrats, and who represents … Continue reading “Other HR2640 Considerations”
We’re currently engaged in a struggle in Pennsylvania to get a preemption enhancement bill through our generally sluggish legislature. Despite what at least one FOAC board member and some mouth foamers have accused me of, I have not yet made up my mind on this bill. The reason is because HB1243 is not so cut and dry, and … Continue reading “HB1243 and Implementing the Relief Provisions of NIAA”
It looks like Gun Owners of America is throwing its weight behind Pat Toomey, even though we’re still an entire year out from the Republican Primary, and as far as I can tell, the primary ballot isn’t even really known yet: First, Senator Arlen Specter provided the instrumental Republican support to get anti-gun Attorney General … Continue reading “Early Endorsement Fisking”
Joe has an excellent post that highlights a real danger in making deals with the likes of the Brady Campaign, such as happened on HR2640, which was signed into law yesterday. The passage of HR2640 raises the political capital of the Brady Campaign, and other anti-gun forces, because they were able to claim victory. They … Continue reading “Dangers of Compromise”
… that Bitter said to me in a text message “You should really be blogging”, which got me started on this whole thing. Ironically the first post was about taking another girl shooting. A lot has happened since I posted about that. Wow. We’re at 2288 Posts, 8468 comments, 173,000 visits, and more than half … Continue reading “It Was One Year Ago Today …”
