Pennsylvania is home to some really fantastic breweries, from Victory Brewing Company in Downingtown, to Pennsylvania Brewing Company in Pittsburgh, it’s a great state to live in, if you’re a beer lover. I’m happy to see us adding Philadelphia Brewing Company to the family of excellent Pennsylvania brewers.

Personally, I miss Stoney’s, from my college days. It was a decent yet cheap all-grain (no rice…) beer brewed in Smithtown. Of course, they got bought out or something, and now they only sell Stoney’s Light.
I’ve also always enjoyed Yuengling, as an “available everywhere cheap, but decent” beer… oh, and their other brewery is in Tampa.
Neither of these are craft brews of course, and they aren’t even close to places like the Church Brew Works in Pittsburgh.
I love how the Pennsylvania Brewing Company has “PENN IS MIGHTIER” as a slogan on their website… brewers tend to have a great sense of humor.
I have a soft spot for Yeungling. Yeah, my taste has matured over the years, but once in a while nothing beats a lager. Especially when it’s the $2 happy hour special.
For Chrissakes why haven’t I tried anything from the Pennsylvania Brewing Company? What is wrong with me?
If it’s available in your neck of the woods, I would suggest trying “Pig’s Ass Porter”, brewed in Belt, MT. I do believe it belongs in its own food group.
I think that I’d be more likely to consider PA a great place to live as a beer lover if you could buy a six pack (rather than a case) at a reasonable price.
