Ahab tells us that it’s quite likely this particular mass shooting was stopped by someone who had a Colorado Concealed Weapons Permit. It’ll be interesting to see this story, which I can promise you the media won’t tell, develop.
UPDATE: Dave Hardy says it was an armed woman.
UPDATE: Looks like Dave got that from Insty who got if from Michelle Malkin.
UPDATE: SayUncle has much much more.
UPDATE: Kurt Hofmann linked this story in the comment, which suggests lends some credence to Ahab’s theory.
UPDATE: Confirmed. The woman was a Colorado CWP holder.
I have been thinking about it all morning, that it might well be a member of the church, who had a ccw.
I have been approached for training church groups in my area, for the same reason.
Churches are targets. It’s not a bad idea for a church to have a security plan. Of course, several states, including Texas and Virginia, have chosen to make churches gun free zones. Pennsylvania is not among them, and when I’ve been in churches here (which isn’t often, I should say), I’m packing.
In fact, the last church I was in was a Synagogue. I was far from the only one there that was armed.
According to the AP;
The gunman was killed by a member of the church’s armed security staff before police arrived, Myers said. Officers also found several smoke-generating devices on the church campus; their intended purpose wasn’t clear.
She wasn’t hired security, according to what Ahab is hearing. That means she’s just a woman with a CWP, who was a member of the church, and I’m guessing volunteered to be security. Possibly volunteering as soon as shots started to be fired.
Just goes to show the old saying is true, “God created man, Colt made them equal.”
Ahab’s theory (that the woman who stopped the killing at the New Life Church was probably a congregation member with a concealed carry license, rather than an off-duty LEO or professional security guard, would seem to be supported by something in this article (on page 2):
A church security officer shot and killed the gunman before police arrived. When they heard about the shooting in Arvada, New Life Church leaders beefed up security for services that morning.
Sounds like some kind of hasty, ad hoc arrangement–seems more likely to be the kind of thing Ahab suspects, rather than anything else.
