The deranged psycho responsible for the Church Shootings in Colorado, who’s life was mercifully dispatched with great prejudice by Ms. Assam, apparently had the following firearms:
- Bushmaster XM15 assault rifle, purchased January 9 in Aurora.
- AK-47 assault rifle, purchased November 17, 2006 in Aurora.
- Beretta .40 cal. semi-automatic handgun , purchased January 4 in Colorado Springs.
- Springfield Armory 9mm semi-automatic handgun, purchased September 11 in Denver.
The AK-47 was the assault rifle found in his car.
Purchased over the period of a year. Sometimes tells me he didn’t just come up with this idea.
UPDATE: Uncle asks “Then, how’d he die from a self-inflicted shotgun wound?” Good question.
Then, how’d he die from a self-inflicted shotgun wound?
Did the guy have a record, or were these legal purchases made by the shooter?
good question indeed.
Something doesn’t add up.
Like I wrote elsewhere, it’s probably a typo. It was probably supposed to read “self-inflicted gun shot wound”.
9news – yet another news agency incorrectly using the phrase “assault rifle” – those are not assault rifles. They’re mid power semi-automatic rifle’s with 2 or more evil looking cosmetic features like a pistol grip. To be an assault rifle the guns would have to have the ability to select various firing modes including fully automatic mode.
The official press release from the Colorado Springs PD can be found here: http://www.springsgov.com/NewsResults.asp?NewsID=3084
and says “He then fired a single round killing himself.” Some dumb-ass AP writer made a typo and all of the cut-and-paste news-outlets propagated it.
So in looking at the other press releases on the Colorado Springs PD website, I realize we’re barking up the wrong tree getting on the journalists for calling the rifles “assault rifles”. What do you expect when the PD press releases call them assault rifles?
Here’s their release listing the weapons the shooter had:
http://www.springsgov.com/NewsResults.asp?NewsID=3091
If the cops are calling them assault rifles, I don’t think we can fault the reporters, who don’t know or care about guns, for repeating what the cops say. The cops are supposed to know guns, right?
AK-47 assault rifle? Did he have it illegally, or should we be asking exactly how he managed to get through the FBI background anal probe?
Or just how inaccurate the reporting is.
I’m not too bothered by describing an actual AK-47 (even if it’s semi-auto-only) as an assault rifle – yes, it’s technically incorrect; but no more incorrect than describing a high-end sports car (Ferrari, Lamborghini, etc) as a race car. Yes, a true race car is likely to be non-street-legal, but they bear about the same relationship to each other as the semi-auto rifle bears to the select-fire version.
OTOH, it isn’t a machine gun; and the people who are describing it as an “assault rifle” in this case are no friends of my rights, so I do find it annoying.
Plus, I have to wonder about the propriety of saying the killer offed himself, if he was bleeding out anyway (hypothetical – I have no idea what the situation was)
This is why we need a three year waiting period – to not only give people time enough to cool down, but for the medication to get dialed in as well!
As I have said previously, I won’t believe he killed himself unless I witness the autopsy. I bet the proof won’t be there, either.
I would also bet that the official report will support the suicide story.
Pencil whipping the facts to protect perceived power is a tried and true tactic of authoritarians everywhere.
1) I would also be curious to know if the pathologist found that any of the pistol wounds were likely to have been fatal.
2) I’m also curious about the “shotgun” wound … maybe he was killed by the same guy who got Vince Foster [sarcasm/].
Journalisttards seem to be interchanging the terms “gun shot” and
“shot gun” with fine (and typical) uncaring that a. words mean things and b. different words mean different things. H/T to Rush.
