From Barack Obama, on what he thinks about DC’s gun ban:
I don’t like taking a stand on pending cases.
Translation: “I agree with the law, but I have to win Indiana or I might be screwed when it comes to wooing superdelegates.” I don’t know why he’s so worried when he has AHSA’s endorsement.
As someone noted on another blog (apologies for not providing the cite, but the ‘puter that has that hyperlink decided to eat its motherboard this afternoon):
BO said: “[The second one] is relevant to the D.C. handgun issue. I wanted to preserve the right of local communities to enforce local ordinances and this would have overturned municipalities being able to enforce their own ordinances. We can argue about whether the ordinances work or not. But I wanted to make sure that local communities were recognized as having a right to regulate firearms.”
he’s already making a stand, he likes the DC ban and thinks that it should remain in place and that the Heller case may provide a precedent for overturning similar laws.
