This is No Way to Run A Republic

These people aren’t stupid, this is pretty clearly media produced ignorance:

On topics the media actually covered, people have knowledge, but the media just ensured the people have no idea what they just voted for.  We can’t have a functioning system with a media that doesn’t do its job.

  1. Products of educational malpractice with malicious intent. If you’ll entertain a suggestion, look at some of the writings of John Taylor Gatto on the subject.

  2. My take-away from this last election is that Teh Media will intentionally do or not-do, by any means necessary, whatever it can to maintain control Teh Narrative.

  3. The media is certainly a part of the problem–I might even go as far as big part–but the people too lazy to look beyond what they’re spoon-fed can hardly be absolved of all responsibility.

  4. well, that MAY be part of it Kurt, but there’s a hell of a lot to be said for government policies contributing to it too. Control of the money, taxes, and only so much time in a day.

  5. At least the one woman was intelligent and honest enough to both realize and admit that she wasn’t as informed as she thought she was. Too bad she still wouldn’t change her vote, but I wouldn’t expect a short interview like that to really convince anyone.

Still, maybe it made her start thinking. That gives me some hope that things will change.

  6. Give me a break, Sebastian. The vast majority of people are deeply, chasmically ignorant of even the most basic facts about pretty much everything in the Western Canon. They have no framework for understanding, nor any interest in addressing their ignorance. Why should they? All their baser desires are sated and that is enough. To blame this ignorance on the media is like blaming stink for being on crap.

  7. I don’t know CounterClckWise, they seemed to know an awful lot about Sarah Palin’s wardrobe and her pregnant teenage daughter.

I see your point, Sebastian, and I agree–to a point. Still, the “news” media offers what sells, and wardrobes and pregnant teenagers are just the kinds of thing that sell to the kind of public that finds Britney Spears and Paris Hilton fascinating.

You can blame the media, but if we believe in free markets, we have to acknowledge that this is the kind of media consumers want–if they didn’t, we wouldn’t have it.

  9. what Kurt said…

I think the dropping circulation of fish wrappers is due to their being so many better choices for entertainment, not because people are looking for less filtered information. One lady in the video said that she gets most of her political information from the Daily Show, and I suspect that is the trend that is hurting newspapers the most. At least the Daily Show is funnier than Doonesbury, which I suppose is a net advance in our civilization.

  10. Well,

This is nothing new! The media hasn’t done it’s job since…..Hoover? I mean guys this is how they have always been, but the new media has smoked them out. The MM is a hard-line political body that has always been in the business of king-making. Media by nature IS partisan and has always been. The only thing that has changed is that the media has hidden behind the use of “objectivity” to masquerade their bias. Unfortunately for them is that this last election revealed much of that bias to the American people, and the majority of them saw it on display. This will come back to haunt them, mark my words they will pay dearly for this in the future.

In my opinion, most people that voted for Obama did so out of ignorance of who he really was. Truman was re-elected the same way by campaigning in a manner so that no one knew what he stood for (sound familiar?). What did we get from him? An attempt to nationalize the steel industry!

This Youtube clip is a great example of what happens when you get someone to vote who has no idea what they are doing. Liberalism thrives upon these types- Ignorance is the opiate of the Marxist, and obviously the delight of the Obama voter.

  11. Hey, at least we have this poll to fall back on when they’re pushing the unfairness doctrine.

    TV airwaves are public too.

  12. If the McCain campaign had done their fucking jobs, this lack of media competence wouldn’t have been relevant.
