PA2010 is reporting on Twitter. No matter what you might have thought of the man on other issues, Murtha was a consistent and reliable vote in favor of the Second Amendment.
UPDATE: Fox has coverage now. Murtha first took office in 1974. He’s been in office for as long as I’ve been walking this earth. Also the AP is covering it now too.
UPDATE: And, naturally, the Demon Sheep weighs in.
I was raised to live my life by the Thumper Rule: If you can’t say something nice, don’t say nuthin’ at all.
So consider this to be my acknowledgement of his passing away.
I will give the man respect and say Semper Fi, from one Marine to another. But like Barry Bonds and his abusing brethren there is always going to be an asterisk by his name for slandering those marines at Haditha.
Couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy. Now let’s move on.
“No matter what you might have thought of the man on other issues, Murtha was a consistent and reliable vote in favor of the Second Amendment.”
I think he’s been confused with someone else. SERIOUSLY confused.
Look at the guy’s record. He’s been with us.
Talk to GOA, they gave him a F-. And even so, anyone who calls American service men and women murderers BEFORE they have their day in court, well, let’s just say he won’t be missed.
I agree his comments there were despicable, but GOA doesn’t know what they are talking about in the case of his record on guns.
It would be interesting to see how GOA arrived at an F-.
I wonder if they considered any real gun votes? Perhaps it was a vote on healthcare or english as the national language or even global warming. That would seem likely since GOA apparently considers numerous issues other than the Second Amendment when making their ratings.
Murtha has been solid on the Second Amendment, even when others wavered.
Indeed they do Mike, and I’ll bet I can find other reps with the same voting record as Murtha who GOA gives a higher grade to.
You expend a lot of energy criticizing Second Amendment activists who (in your view) “make the rest of us look bad”.
I’m not sure people who believe in honesty and good government should consider the dearly departed on our side, even if he did usually vote “our” way on one very important issue.
I did not respect the man, however I am grateful for his time served as a Marine.
