I actaully know the process of how felons can get there rights restored as I know someone who has. And you would be amazed how many felons do not realize they cannot own guns. I mean seriously, even violent felons.
“And you would be amazed how many felons do not realize they cannot own guns. I mean seriously, even violent felons.”
I have an aunt who married a felon–he may have even been a violent felon. He abused my cousins, and it’s my understanding that he owned guns. When I learned these things, I was aware that it was illegal for him to do so, but being a kid at the time (and possibly after he disappeared–may have gone back to prison–but I’m not sure), I wouldn’t have known what to do about these things.
In any case, I have little faith in government being able to keep guns out of the hands of felons. It’s one reason I support the idea that anyone out of prison ought to be free to own guns–because, if you are safe enough to be let out of prison, you should be safe enough to own weapons of self defense.
Who knows?–if parole boards had to ask themselves, “Would I trust this character with a gun?”, they may be less prone to letting certain people out for parole!
Interesting. But I doubt it will go anywhere.
