Delaware has always been one of those states that neither side could really move. Their carry are may-but-we-kind-of-sort-of-mostly-issue, but other than that Delaware’s gun laws aren’t that different from most other states. Neither side has tried very hard to change anything until now:
Gov. Jack Markell announced a package of bills Wednesday aimed at strengthening Delaware’s gun laws.
He wants to “close the gun show loophole,” make it illegal to possess a firearm under the influence, improve reporting to NICS, and allow seized firearms to be destroyed. The first one is non-negotiable, but I’d trade making it illegal to carry under the influence to make Delaware a shall-issue state. No word on what the legal BAC limit would be, but if it’s the same as an automobile, I have no objection.
The gun show loophole is hilarious because Delaware has one gun show that is held twice per year. It’s tiny so if they really cared they could police it with two plainclothes State Troopers. Markell is just parroting the usual lefty authorities and has been since he started campaigning.
Get a Utah CCW, and you can carry in Delaware.
The Utah CCW only works for non-residents. Delaware residents must jump through all the hoops to get a CCW.
Only if you’re a non-residents. Residents have to possess a Delaware CDWL
The antis aren’t about “trading”. If they can’t get what they want today, they’re willing to wait until tomorrow or the next day. They are willing to give back nothing. Their goal is eventual elimination of private firearms ownership. “Trading” is not consistent with that goal, so there is not point in it for them.
“I’d trade making it illegal to carry under the influence to make Delaware a shall-issue state.”
Make it constitutional carry and you might have a deal. I’m not much for compromise anymore, though, since gun owners have The Constitution and facts on their side.
I guess I still try to see the good in people since for a brief moment I thought, “Gov. Jack Markell announced a package of bills Wednesday aimed at strengthening Delaware’s gun laws,” meant he was pro-gun and pro-rights. I know, just wishful thinking. :)
Like New Jersey, there are 2 Delawares, the North and the South! Lower slower Delaware, the Tea Party area, needs to step up and get better organized and fight off these lame brains in the state.
“No word on what the legal BAC limit would be, but if it’s the same as an automobile, I have no objection.”
Surely you jest. The Fed-driven 0.08% BAC limit is preposterously low; have a single mixed drink with dinner, maybe a nice martini, and you’ll be needing to linger over dessert if you don’t want to risk a DUI.
Someone of my age and body mass is even worse off; If I have a hard cider with food, I need to find a ride home or wait a couple of hours.
I’m no fan of drunk drivers but as it stands, the law turns a lot of people who aren’t drunk into DUI offenders — and you’d happily add firearm offender to the charges. Shall we hand our guns to the bartender before trying a strong ale?
There’s no trading with antis, no backing down. Whatever they get, they’ll be back for more.
