In both colonial Massachusetts and Virginia, and possibly other colonies as well, it was mandatory to bring a gun to church, as protection against Indians. The people who founded this country didn’t see anything incompatible between guns and churches. Where did this squishy pacifism come from?
As a side note, on certain ceremonial occasions 4th Degree Knights of Columbus wear their swords in church. Why should one weapon be allowed and another demonized?
I would not support a *legal* requirement to bring a weapon to church any more than a legal ban on guns in churches. Shouldn’t the Church decide for itself what is or isn’t allowed on its premises?
