Glenn Reynolds has a Commentary in the Washington University law review on a citizen’s right to record the police. I think this is an important check against governmental power.

I think it should go even further. With camera technology so inexpensive, every cop should have a camera attached to their hat and it should record continuously throughout their entire shift. Everything a cop sees and hears, his camera will see and hear as well. No more his word against yours – it should all be right there on a recording, and nothing else should be allowed as evidence. (OK, so I’m dreaming….)
