People of the gun was a project of Jeff Soyer, who has been blogging for a long time. By “long time,” meaning I was reading Jeff before I blogged. He stopped blogging for a while, but came back to it. I’m guessing someone else picked up People of the Gun. He started this years ago, back in 2007. I am among those people, Second row, linked under the old blog name. That picture was taken in West Texas, out near Jayton, not long after I started blogging. I have a friend whose family has a ranch out that way. Good times. Damn, that was a long time ago, or so it seems now.

An AK man? Nice.
I was at the time. My tastes have evolved a bit :)
Hard to beat an AK for “TSHTF and you are squatting in a cave in the hills” scenario though. They seem to always go BANG when you need them to. No matter what you’ve done to them short of running them over with a tank!
I’m not going to argue against any inexpensive “gateway” weapon ^_^, and as many have noted, the AK family has a lot of virtues. I myself would like to try shooting one just to see what it’s like, what our soldiers have been facing … since Vietnam? Etc.
indeed it was. Jeff was the original gun blogger. Even before Kim Du Toit. I found both Says Uncle and Kim through him. I’m up there somewhere too.
actually . . . . I don’t seem to be there. But that’s a good blast from the past nevertheless. Decent list of folks who were blogging about guns circa 2006-2007 (though I seem to remember this as having been put up prior to that, maybe Jeff had a different page? He did start a second blog at some point beyond Alphecca. I remember the picture too, I had my old lab in it, one of the last pictures with him before he passed away that winter).
