And from what I recall, Stoner designed it for semi-auto use first. A full auto version was created for military trials later.
Yep. Ironic that they want to ban it as a “weapon of war”, when it was originally designed for civilians, and later adapted for military use.
At this moment, I can’t think of any other gun developed in that order. Most guns were made for the military first, and adopted for civilian use later.
I’ve always considered the AR15 to be McNamara’s second blunder. (The first being Vietnam, and the third being the F-111.)
