The survey, which was conducted in early March 2013, received 15,000 responses from law enforcement professionals. It found that the overall attitude of law enforcement is strongly anti-gun legislation and pro-gun rights, with the belief that an armed citizenry is effective in stopping crime. Response percentages varied only slightly when analyzed by rank and department size. Among the results:
Here’s the detailed results. This is quite good because 15,000 police officers is a very sizable survey, and represents a good chunk of law enforcement officers. A lot of the survey data on law enforcement attitudes toward gun control were getting stale, so I welcome this. This goes to show that when the gun control movement claims law enforcement is on their side, they are full of it.
UPDATE: On further investigation, the methodology leaves a bit to be desired. But then again, so do Bloomberg’s surveys, so I don’t see any reason not to use it.
I’m a PA LEO and have worked in the criminal justice system for the last 14 years. I don’t know any other cops, duties, probation/parole officers, or game wardens who support gun control. We all know it’s a sham that doesn’t work.
Police chiefs who serve at the pleasure of anti-gun mayors will promote gun control. %hese traitors, anxious to keep their generous pensions, will support the narrative. However, the rank and file will not. Needless to say, the chiefs will get the spotlight.
Does this mean cops are racist tea partying bigots again?
I’m so confused!
First, its “Cops are racists keeping down minorities!”
But then I hear that police are the Only Ones to be trusted with a monopoly of force!
Now it turns out that beat cops don’t believe in gun control and anyone who doesn’t like gun control is racist.
When will the MSM be along to tell me what I believe?
*sarcasm off*
:-\
Somehow I won’t be letting this survey cloud my judgment when interacting with a cop. There is enough documented evidence available to convince me that, in general, cops are not my friends. Of course there are good cops out there, it just isn’t possible to tell them apart by looking at them. Therefore, prudence dictates that you assume they are all bad until they demonstrate otherwise. After all, they make the same assumption about you.
