A local TV station got video of the takedown in Concord, New Hampshire, of the protestor who confronted one of the MAIG speakers at the podium. From what it looks like to me is he was trying to physically turn the officer around so he would look at the camera. All I could think about watching this was “This guy is Peter Griffith from Family Guy.” Except I think Peter Griffith probably respects the personal space of others better than this guy does. I’m not sure an arrest and tasering is an appropriate response to what’s pretty clearly non-assaultive personal contact, but at this point I think most people know with today’s “officer safety” culture that even touching a cop is going to land you in the hoosegow.

It will depend on the law, but touching a cop in most jurisdictions is Assault Upon and Officer.
And that’s just ridiculous.
In a perfect world, there should be nothing that you do or say to a cop that would get you arrested, that you wouldn’t get arrested for if you did it to any other citizen.
In that video, I only saw one side doing the assaulting. And for that, they may get a bonus or a high five at the water cooler.

“Hey, Quagmire, watch me piss off this cop.”
“I’m not sure an arrest and tasering is an appropriate response …”
Not sure? NOT SURE?? I absolutely positive that it IS NOT the appropriate response. The cops involved should be fired and charged with assault with a deadly weapon (tasers can kill), kidnapping, illegal imprisonment, assault under color of law, etc. Until the minions of Leviathan start to suffer personally for their transgressions, gov’t abuse will only continue to get worse.
There’s video out there of him conversing with an officer, then stupidly putting his hand on the officer’s shoulder in a “buddy” type move…probably didn’t even think about it.
He was then swarmed.
After a quick review of the relevant statutes in the New Hampshire code (Ch. 631, 642 & 644, regarding “assault and related offenses,” “obstructing governmental operations” and “breaches of the peace and related offenses”), it appears to me the only “assaultive” behavior I saw was that of the cops.
I’d suggest he file charges against them, with the video his primary evidence.
Was he boorish and rude at the rally? Yes. But boorish and rude are not crimes.
Based solely upon the video (which can at times be quite misleading, admittedly), the cops were out of line.
Man, if that’s simple assault, then I simply assaulted a lot if people in my life.

It’s Peter Griffin from Family Guy, not Peter Griffith.
No, I’m not a huge fan of the show any more. The material is far too left-leaning for me, but I do at least know all of the main characters by name.
