“Iowa, for good reason, for constitutional reasons, for reasons related to the Lord, should be the first caucus and primary,” Richardson, New Mexico’s governor, said at the Northwest Iowa Labor Council Picnic. “And I want you to know who was the first candidate to sign a pledge not to campaign anywhere if they got ahead of Iowa. It was Bill Richardson.”
We call that a very awkward appeal to religious voters that Richardson should be wary of trying in the future. Either that, or Bill Richardson is insane.
I really hope that it was just tongue-in-cheek.
You know what really irritates Christians? When politicians make ham-handed attempts to “appeal to our faith” with silliness such as this.
It’s so annoyingly transparent that all they’re doing is pandering to the “religious vote”, and it becomes a real turn off for most Christian folk.
Had I intended to vote for him he would have lost me right there. Don’t piss down my neck and tell me it’s raining.
I’ld want to hear the tone he used when he said that.
Forget God. Constitutional reasons? Such as?
Agreed with Rightwingprof. The “constitutional reasons” bugs me almost as much as the obvious pandering.
