Thanks to Miguel for a good laugh over the weekend. Over this week I’m going to try to get in a series of posts about the NRA, how it works (or doesn’t work, as the case may be) so that folks can understand it better.

There are real world examples of the NRA working to preserve gun control. Making fun of them won’t make the examples go away or the bitter taste sweeter.
I’ve personally seen the negative impact the NRA has here in Georgia. Instead of implying folks who point out the examples are looney, perhaps you should take the time and give Raymond White, the NRA’s lobbyist in Georgia, a call. Ask him if he told any state representatives to vote against SB308. If he denies doing so, he isn’t telling you the truth (several Representatives admitted so on the floor and its on video and I was personally told so by several Reps). If he says that he did, ask why did the NRA try to kill SB308.
I don’t know who Raymond White is. Is he someone NRA is contracting with? Randy Kozuch is NRA’s lobbyist for Georgia.
I can think of at least two gun blogs that I no longer read due to their over-the-top NRA-bashing. Reasoned criticism is fine, nuclear-option conspiracy-fueled rants are not.
I really liked “But the NRA favors 2nd Amendment over hunting!” and “But the NRA favors hunting over the 2nd Amendment!”
This relates to a comment I made on another posting here, that the NRA was originally a rifle organization, and in recent decades it had to learn how to defend its sport; thus, it has to balance itself between these two things.
Now that I think about it, if I understand NRA organization correctly, the NRA even tries to compartmentalize these two functions: NRA “proper” for training, and NRA-ILA for political grand-standing.
Raymond White is the outside lobbyist for the NRA and its local presence in state capital in Atlanta. Isn’t Randy Kozuch located at Virginia HQ?
