Police Crack Down in Illegal Guns

In China, where guns for ordinary people are banned:

China Daily, in a story on Wednesday about the gun trade in the remote area where Hunan province borders Guizhou province and Chongqing, said the region’s underground gunsmiths and their homemade firearms flow mainly from Songtao, an autonomous Guizhou county.

We’ve always said that’s what would happen if total prohibition were enacted, and we’re laughed at by the prohibitionists. But that’s exactly what’s happened in China.

  2. This story should come as no surprise when one considers that guns and gunpowder were both largely invented in China over 800 years ago. No amount of laws or law enforcement will ever eradicate technical know-how going back that far.

    Everyone is missing the important part: regions of the country may remain under formal control, but are autonomous – because they fight back. The regions has, for most practical purposes, seceded.

  5. I just read the full article on the China Daily site at the link above. I was intrigued by the part which mentioned the phone call with one of the “middlemen” black market gun sellers and his offer to sell a Type 64 pistol with a silencer and five rounds of ammunition for the equivalent of $320. The Type 64 pistol is much like the Walther PPK from what I have read, so I guess that for less than the cost of most decent semi-auto pistols here in the USA, a Chinese person with the right connections can get about the same exact armament set up as what James Bond carried in all of his movies until the more recent ones started coming out with that Daniel Craig guy playing 007.

    Anyway, I tried leaving a pro-Second Amendment rebuttal to the blatantly anti-Second Amendment and pro-Communist comment left by a “Don Rechtman” on the China Daily page, also at the link above. It was scrubbed in short order. Go figure…censorship of my pro-gun rights comment on the comments page of a web site that’s controlled by Communist regime – so crazy, right? *sarcasm*

    All I can say now is “Eff China” and then some. I don’t care how much I like Mandarin Beef or sweet and sour pork any more.

    Those students at Tiananmen Square back in 1989 sure could have used a few of those homemade Chinese black market firearms before they all got massacred or turned into psych ward vegetables. Maybe next time, they will have the right connections for some firepower, instead of just standing in front of tank columns and getting rolled over. (That’s the part we never got to see.)
