Time to start thinking about the end of the year. Not sorry to see 2010 go, since much like every year since 2008, it’s mostly sucked. A lousy economy where I worry daily about my job, and to top off the whole soggy ice cream cone, no mission to Jupiter. We did have the McDonald win, followed by the election win, so that was something, at least. But I’m happy to say goodbye to 2010, and here’s hoping to avoiding unemployment in 2011!
We’re celebrating tonight with some Navy Bean Soup I’m making out of the ham bone and ham I have leftover from Christmas. On top of that, we’ll be making a two cheese swiss fondue, along with a variety of dippers. For drinks we have Manhattans, Mimosas and some sparkling wine for ringing in 2011 at midnight. I also have some Kirschwasser leftover from the fondue recipe, which is a brandy made from distilled cherries. It’s not like cherry brandy, which is just regular brandy (distilled from grapes) with cherry flavor thrown in. It’s more like a cherry derived liquor you could probably run your car on if you tried. It has a certain knock you on your ass quality that regular brandy lacks.
What’s on your New Year’s Eve Agenda?
Happy New Years to you too, Sebastian and Bitter. I’ve really enjoyed following your blog this year, and you even inspired me to get out and help with the elections (I worked a bit on the Corbett campaign). Keep up the good work, and I’ll see you in ’11!
PS – I feel you with the job security thing. I spent this year unemployed, but fortunately I’m (finally) starting a new job on the 17th!
Happy New Years! I’m feeling very restless, probably because 2011 is a huge question mark for us – we might be moving two times, or none. Some big career decisions in the making, too. I hate uncertainty.
We’re staying in tonight – our fondue will be tomorrow, the Football Day Beer-Cheddar fondue. Looking forward to it!
Joining in hereearly in the morning.
I fell asleep at 11:50 on the couch. My wife and kids woke me at midnight, and I kissed them all and then rolled right back over and slept there all night.
2009, 2010 have been years I have stressed over my job as well. I have been in a work rut as the company I work for reorganizes. One day I was a high paid executive, then a new party of big wigs come in from the Midwest and takes over with their own cronies. I am kept and demoated, but pay remains the same. They need my skills.
At 53, I need 10 more years. But would take 8 with a good package!
Happy New Year!
Happy New Year. Keep up the great blogging.
2011 is going to be a great one!
Sebastian/Bitter – Thanks for the plethora of information and commentary that you both do here and on PAGUNRIGHTS. The last 1.5 years that I have been following you guys has been great with learning, laughing and then spreading the 2nd Amendment and other ideas on to others. Have a great New Year’s wknd and keep up the wonderful work! Thanks!
Hey, Happy New Year, a bit late, just starting to sober up from New Years Eve!
(Yeah, yeah, I know it’s the 3rd, actually was surprised it wasn’t later)
We had homemade Hot Wings, Pigs in a Blanket, Pizza and the usual assortment of alcohol and mixers, and Champagne for midnight.
BTW, stay away from Great Western (Northern? Can’t remember) (it’s from NY) Champagne, they actually use a real cork, which was a reak PITA to get out. plastic pops much easier……
