Via Dave Hardy, the bill in Georgia for Parking lot carry has been largely gutted. Concealed Weapons Permit holders will be pleased though, as it removes the ban in State Parks. I still question whether the Parking Lot issue is worth spending all these political resources. It may have passed in a few states, but I think it could be a real coalition splitter in many states. Georgia would appear to be one of them.

The parking lot bill was not the coalition splitter in Georgia, the NRA was. They split that coalition when negated all the hard work and sure victory the local groups had accomplished.
Then they pushed something that had much less chance of passage than it would have had if the first bill had been successful.
However, they got what they wanted most. The headlines.
Headlines that will now be impetus for them sending more “send money” letters to Georgians and others because of the fate that “sadly” befell their efforts on the behalf of gunowners.
It’s a con, when are you going to get tired of it?
A small victory is still better than a loss. Seeing as the “no-compromise” bill is dead in the water, this is better than the nothing they would have gotten without the NRA.
A small victory is better than a loss, but could HR915 have been pushed in its place? I think NRA miscalculated the politics involved here. It seems that a lot of ordinarily pro-gun politicians didn’t want to support the Parking Lot initiative because the business interests were opposed to it, or they didn’t like the idea of government interference there. This small victory is better than defeat, but I question whether this battle was worth fighting.
Nonetheless, predicting political outcomes isn’t a science. You don’t often know the politics of something until you try, quite often. NRA tried, but in the end I think they misread the politics of this issue in Georgia. It happens, and I’m not going to go the route straightarrow would prefer me to go and argue it’s an indication the association is just out for headlines.
All the NRA had to do is ask, it would have saved a lot of time and energy.
Georgia, is a small government state, as well as very independent. I would have thought that who Civil War thing would have been a clue. We don’t like to be told what to do, especially from outsiders.
Anyhow, I am glad there has been, for the most part, a peaceful resolve to this bill. I hope it passes and we all get something out of it.
I don’t want you to go any particular way. I do wish you would respect me enough quit trying to con me with all the apologist crap about how NRA made an error.
It is an error they have repeatedly made. As I have said before, if someone hits you in the mouth more than once it is not an accident despite their protestations to the contrary.
