I continue to be befuddled by the number of Pennsylvania news outlets condemning HR822 as a race to the bottom. All it takes to get a concealed carry license in Pennsylvania is paying less than 30 bucks, filling out a form, and waiting a week or so for the background check to clear. If this state doesn’t have reciprocity with another state, it’s because the other state donsn’t want to. Our AG is obligated to probe other states for agreements.
The Post-Gazette summons the specter of “Florida Loophole,” even though that issue is entirely a matter of state law now, and would continue to be entirely a matter of state law if HR822 were to pass.
A week or so?
Luzerne County did mine in 15 minutes.
Lancaster county is now quick like that too, when I had applied I think it was 1-2 weeks.
I have a PA License. I just sent a photocopy of my Ohio License, and $25 cash to a sheriff there, and he sent back a license. I mainly got it to have the ability to carry in GA, which Ohio doesn’t have an agreement with.
I can’t wait to see the PSH from the news outlets when PA goes Constitutional Carry in the next 5 years.
The “Florida Loophole” is basically closed here in Philly anyway. I would not risk arrest to become the test case, and neither would most people in my situation. So they basically got what they wanted for the most part – to keep nonviolent, non-criminal, productive citizens such as me from carrying on a Florida permit. It never was something that real criminals could exploit in the first place.
