My GF enlisted at the start of THE War, 1916, he served on the Olympia; I recall him saying how he was underage (16). We lived in Philadelphia in the late 60s when the Olympia opened as a museum along the Delaware Ave.. He took myself and a brother on a tour, one of many actually. Of the few things I recall from 40 years ago are the hammocks and his touching one saying that that one was his. He also said he was a “gunner” and showed us the gun too. I don’t recall which one only that it was on the river-side. I’ve recently moved to FL, however, I came from Philadelphia and would pass by “Admiral Dewey’s Flagship” as he would proudly proclaim (I believe in my experience, USMC, USS Midway Mar-Det that it should have been Commodore Dewey.) I would like to contact a group or site where I could do a search for him, I have the full name & DOB.
