It seems that NBC contacted the DC police about having David Gregory use a 30-round-magazine on Meet the Press and was told that they could not violate the law. However, TMZ reports that NBC appears to have gone to the ATF and they contacted the DC police about the issue. It seems to me that permission to violate the law was suddenly granted once the federal agency stepped into the situation.

Well, that would be par for the course for the ATF with “Fast and Furious”. Why buck the trend now?
Seriously, David Gregory and anyone who handed him the magazine should be DC police custody. The DC law makes no exception or distinctions on the possession of such a dangerous item. They treat the possession of an 11+ round magazine the same as having an illegal machine gun. Which is how they define said magazine and the penalties for having it. Why does he get a pass? If anything, the arrests would show the rest of America what these people are really after and that is to make 80 million Americans felons.
Damn, can’t do that. Would ruin the narrative.

The ridiculousness of this statement is astounding….even beyond the hypocrisy of it all as you are a supposed defender of the 2nd Amendment who is all too willing to throw Gregory under the bus for simply touching something that you even admit was likely “handed” to him for the interview. Something tells me that if it were LaPierre who was holding the clip and now being investigated you would be crapping yourself at the injustice.

If the rule is that possession of a standard-capacity magazine is a offense is a misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail and a $1,000 fine. Then you make the person that WANTS that law live up to it when he breaks it.
This is a win or win bigger for those of us that support the human right to self-defense. If he goes to jail, well, that’s one less talking head on the idiot box. If he remains a free man, he has to explain everytime he opens his trap on this issue why its okay for him to have a standard capacity magazine but not any of the “little people.”
Actually I wouldn’t. We as gun owners are expected to know the law. Our “betters” demand it of us. So let’s hoist them by their own petard. If they acted out of ignorance in the goal of their agenda, allow them to enjoy the fruits of what they would inflict upon us.
I agree with another poster below. Selective enforcement is evil. Yes, I disagree wholeheartedly with the DC law and find it onerous beyond words. I would never live there for that reason alone. But we are nation of laws and operate by the rule of law. It is one of the few things that makes this country truly special. Take away that in the name of being of the right party, ideology, etc and we are no different than a dictator run banana republic or third world country.
I would expect Wayne LaPierre to know the law. It would be foolish for someone as President of the NRA to not to. The answer is to allow those who would disarm us or limit what we will be allowed for our own good to enjoy a taste of that medicine.
None of us would receive that special treatment. Citizens have been arrested and prosecuted in DC for this. Gregory is no different.

I would gladly chip in for the defense fund. It would be wonderful if the case that overturns DC’s mag ban was Gregory v. District of Columbia.
And what exactly does the ATF have to do with DC law?
Federal enclave. Can’t have just any commoner enforcing the laws inside Zijin Cheng, they might not show proper courtesies to the aristocracy and the technocrats.
Why not have some bloggers bring some 30 round mags into dc? It might showcase the hypocritical police response and really change the narrative.
I seriously doubt that any pro-gun bloggers out there are going to feel the desire to risk their own freedoms and personal finances by openly carrying 30-round rifle magazines into DC. Any story about a pro-gun blogger getting arrested in DC for the simple possession of a 30-round rifle magazine would mostly go unreported in the left-leaning mainstream media. The story would likely just get put in the “local news” section of DC’s media outlets and not go beyond that. The hypocrisy of any such arrest would almost certainly not be mentioned anywhere in the left-leaning mainstream media. Other pro-gun bloggers and conservative media would likely cover the story, of course, which might then get some coverage on the Fox News Channel.
David Gregory is a good little lefty journalist who supports the current regime. The current regime likewise supports David Gregory. I have no doubt by now that the police and city government of DC have all been given their marching orders by the current regime to just pay some lip service on this issue, but otherwise pretend that no crime was committed by David Gregory, and whoever else it was who likely drove over to some gun shop in Virginia and purchased that 30-round AR magazine. It was either that, or somebody ordered it online and had it shipped to their home address in Virginia.
This is off-topic a bit, but I just overheard somebody saying that a CNN reporter named Don Lemon, who presumably is a resident of Georgia, might have violated Colorado state law by purchasing an AR-15 rifle somewhere in Colorado not long after the shootings at the movie theater in Aurora. Don Lemon was neither investigated nor arrested for this, right?

It is a bad law, but the way I see it:
Pro-gun people generally take the stance that existing laws should be enforced. I am in agreement with this. If it is a bad law, change it, but selective enforcement is evil.
Also, this guy agrees with the law and actively campaigns for it. Let him be an example of how bad it is. People who push for laws should absolutely not get special treatment.
Just thinking out loud:
The media, especially the mainstream, to a certain extent has public officials by the balls, because if they decided to start a revenge campaign against one of them, and took it seriously, it would almost certainly be effective. Thus there is a reason, in addition to collusion, why media figures get away with a lot.
If they don’t have to obey the law then I don’t either. It applies to all equally or it’s a tool of tyrants. If they want it that way they had better look to themselves, Sic semper evello mortem Tyrannis.

Off topic, but important. Feinstein has posted her proposal for a new ban on her website, and it’s a nightmare. In addition to a lot of other godawful things, she wants to re-classify anything the ban covers as an NFA item.

I hope that everyone can find a way to resolve this constitutional issue related to firearms in a way that everyone can be satisfied with.
People get mad at me for saying things like this, but realistically everyone thinks the constitution means whatever is necessary to enable the outcomes they want. So, everyone who doesn’t see every outcome thy want achieved, is going to be screaming about “activist judges” and the destruction of the constitution.
So no, hardly anyone is going to be satisfied.
