Best Blog Icon Ever

I love this guy’s blog icon.  It goes so well with the title.  Since my pseudonym has its roots with a certain baroque era composer, I wish I could have thought up something this good.  Of course, I think Beethoven probably has better public recognition than Johann Sebastian Bach.

Hey, It Worked For Me!

Glenn Reynolds points out, in trying to explain why there are more male political bloggers than female:

Men are genetically programmed to try to stand out through action, in the hopes of attracting women. It’s true, of course that blogging is a relatively ineffective way of doing that — but so are many other ways this urge manifests itself, like extreme Star Trek fandom. The point is the genetically programmed urge, which isn’t programmed into women in the same manner. Is this true? Beats me, but it’s amusing.

Ilya Somin suggest this wouldn’t be a very efficient way to find women:

Since political blogging reaches an overwhelmingly male audience, it probably isn’t a very efficient way to attract women. It may not be quite as irrational a dating strategy as trying to attract women through “extreme Star Trek fandom,” but it’s probably less effective than checking out to Ladies’ Night at the local bar. If you spend a lot of time blogging, you probably could have devoted that time to other activities where meeting women would be more likely.

Speak for yourself gentlemen, but it worked for me.  Bars might be an easy way to get laid, but going after female bloggers you like is a far better long term strategy.  And what better way to attract them than by starting a blog yourself?

The Blogging Community

Bitter thinks more hook and bullet writers who are trying to break into blogging need to be reading other blogs, and participating in the community as a whole:

If you click through, it’s to a NewsMax article about Obama trying to get NRA ads booted off the air. Petzal is not clear if he’s questioning the existence of the threatening letters, the accuracy of NRA, or NewsMax. I was a little perturbed by this when I left a comment outlining numerous sources that link the letters and responses.

But then I realized that I was actually a little short because of a slightly related beef with the outdoor media and the blogosphere. I applaud these forms of dead tree media for encouraging their writers to blog. However, I’m not sure that they really understand what a community the blogosphere is, and how that community makes the blogosphere as great as it is, especially in the gun world.

I would agree.  Read the whole thing.

New Blogroll Addition

Blackfork (Robert) runs and incredibly well written blog, and it’s high time I added him to the blogroll.  Here is his coverage of the Texas State Rifle and Pistol Assocation 2008 Garand Championships here, here, here and here.  His YouTube channel was also pretty helpful to me in figuring out how to rig up the M1907 sling I had just bought to my AR.

ParaUSA Donates Gun to GBR III

ParaUSA is donating a gun to GBR III to be used to help raise money for Project Valor IT.  It’s a good cause, and a good gun.  GBR is shaping up to look pretty good this year.  Unfortunatly, a scheduling conflict with the election volunteer stuff I’m doing is preventing me from going this year, but that leaves more of a chance for someone else to win.  Good luck to all the attendees.
