Two Things to Read

There’s two things I missed this week that I would like to have linked to, but because I was frantically cleaning in anticipation of Bitter’s imepnding arrival, I had to cut back on my regular blog reading.

First, Tam has an excellent response to Uncle’s post on serial numbered parts.

Second, Kevin Baker has written a thought provoking piece on education, and how it’s creating more and more kids each generation that look to government to solve our problems.  I agree, but think education is only one prong of the problem.  The drift toward ever bigger government is also largely driven by the people opposing it having better things to do than get involved in government and fix it.  I think there’s also a problem with the cultural notion that everyone has a civic duty to vote.  I think that’s hogwash.  We have no vested interest in people who have only a peripheral understanding of government and politics casting a ballot.  Someone who doesn’t care enough to vote without being guilted into it by MTV, or some other activist group, probably ought not to be voting.

Spreading the Message

Joe Huffman is going to be giving a presentation about us (the gun blogosphere) and our activities as of late to the Boeing Rifle and Pistol Club.  I’m guessing Boeing makes UAVs, and I’m thinking a great way for Boeing to do blogger outreach is to send us one to evaluate.  Preferably with missiles.  I’m sure I can find someone who has a junk yard who is sympathetic to our evaluating its effectiveness on vehicles.

About that Video

SayUncle claimed to have a certain video today, that when we clicked on it, we got Rickrolled.

In a carefully crafted bit of revenge, done gun blogosphere style, I have a very embarassing photo of SayUncle taken at the Second Amendment Blogger Bash to share with everyone.

UPDATE: It’s a joke.  It’s not Rick Astley :)

DC Bloggers Looking for Firepower?

Megan McArdle is questioning whether she wants to get a gun if they become legal in DC.  I would caution that when Heller is ruled on, the fight will just be beginning.  It’ll be a while before DC residents can legally buy firearms, and there aren’t any gun shops in the district yet anyway, unless you want to talk to Josh Sugarmann about running you through the whole 4473 and background check process as soon as the Supremes give the green light.

Despite what a certain anti-gun group, that rhymes with Shady Insane, is advising Megan over on their blog, using statistics that have already been thoroughly debunked.  Of course, with owning a gun comes responsibility, and we know a lot more about that than the Brady Campaign ever will.  Since we’ve seen Megan at the range before with other bloggers, we assume she has people that have the safety education bit taken care of, but there are an entire bevy of gun bloggers who are ready to help, if need be.  Some of us are even certified instructors.
