The Star-Ledger, to it’s credit, apparently is seeking some balance on the gun issue in it’s New Jersey Views blog feature.  The Association of New Jersey Rifle and Pistol Club (ANJRPC) President Scott Bach, who is also on the NRA Board of directors, now has a blog running counter to Bryan Miller’s.  We welcome Scott to the party. I anxiously await the hordes of anti-gun people which will no doubt now swarm his blog (It’s hard to even type that with a straight face).

Cat Got Your Tongue?
I noticed that Bryan Miller’s blog has been strangely silent. Perhaps he’s a bit sheepish about his reaction to the whole Newark tragedy after the details of the criminal record of the alleged perpetrator have come to light. Perhaps he’s just busy.
Or perhaps the anti-gunners are realizing that they can’t compete in the blogosphere.
Light Posting
Posting always tends to be light when I’m coming back from Bitter’s. It might be especially light this afternoon, because in order to do two blogs last week, I actually was kind of slacking off at work a bit, and now I need to catch up and get back on schedule.
Saying No to Myself
I actually voted “Not a fan” over at Uncle’s poll, even though I was one of the mentioned guest bloggers, because I’m actually kind of wary of the group blog concept. I’ve seen some people make the transition from solo to group pretty well, but I’ve seen other blogs head downhill fast when they went that direction. Group blogging can work if you have the right mix of people. I think Eugene Volokh has done a pretty good job of that over that The Volokh Conspiracy, but few people could replicate his enviable “staff”.
Given Bitter’s recent burn out with trying to keep The Bitch Girls up all by her lonesome, I’ve given some thought as to how I would try to ride a busy period. I think the key would to bring in different guest bloggers to feature maybe for two posts a day for a few weeks. If I found someone that was doing pretty well, I’d ask them to come on as a regular contributor, maybe just a few posts a week. I see contributors as a way to fill in gaps, rather than contribute to the fundamental “voice” of the blog, which I think one person has to retain some degree of control over.
That said, I do think that group blogging can work, you just have to be careful about how you go about it. I think it works best when you pick contributers you know pretty well, and know will help to fill in gaps, while not changing the fundamental tone or style of the blog.
The Bitch Girls are Back
It’s hard to quit cold turkey, plus, there is a new Bitch Girl to help feed the addiction :)
UPDATE: The new Bitch Girl will be called Legal Bitch. Â She’s pretty young, and just starting out law school, so maybe it should be “Barely Legal Bitch” (that’s sure to attract the google traffic!)Â Thanks you, thank you. Â I’m here all week.
RSS Republishing
Sorry for any of you who read through RSS. WordPress probably just republished a bunch of crap from months past because of some long overdue house keeping. I cleaned up some categories, and eliminated others that I didn’t think served much of a useful purpose because they only had a few entries, and I didn’t really see myself ever using them again.
Cold Turkey
Man, I don’t know this not blogging thing is going to work out for Bitter.  When I got here, she had her Ethernet cable tied around her arm looking for a vein. It’s hard to quit!
How to Attract Commenters
I have some advise on how to attract commenters to your blog:
1. Don’t use Blogger
2. See rule number one.
Seriously, I hate blogger’s comment stuff. WordPress remembers all your critical info. Blogger integrates with gmail, which I find annoying, because it always wants me to post with my blogger profile.  I have to manually select “Other” and fill in my blogger creds, then pass the word verification, which I get wrong half the time somehow. That’s not even mentioning comments are a whole separate page. There have been more than a few times I’ve gone to comment on a blogspot blog and thought “nah, it’s not worth the trouble.”
Combined Blog?
A lot of people who are disappointed that Bitter is taking a break from blogging suggest that maybe we should combine our blog. There are no short term plans for such an endeavor, but for those of you who want to keep up with Bitter, I will be happy to update. I will, of course, credit her for things she points out to me as well.
If we do decide to combine our blogs, that makes for some amusing name combination possibilities. All I can think of is:
“Bitches in Hell”
“Bitchy Snowflakes”
“Snowflakes Are Falling on Your Bitch, Yo”
Maybe some of you have better suggestions.
Way to Win Friends
I may have my disagreements with Clayton on a lot of social issues, but if this is what passes for reasoned discourse among Idaho progressives, no wonder it’s a Republican dominated state. I sincerely hope this site isn’t run by grown adults.
