Fred Thompson has more to say about the horrific murders in Newark that I blogged about here.

Philadelphia Grocery Store Shooting
Eric has a pretty good read over at Classical Values. I’m always impressed with the depth that he looks into issues, especially in regards to our area.  In this article, he’s looking at a recent murder in a Chinese owned grocery; a robbery gone sour.
Wyatt Earp also has some thoughts on it.
Scumbag Caught
They finally caught the scumbag(s) who shot, execution style, three Newark, NJ teenagers in cold blood. Unfortunately, no information as far as motives are coming to light yet, but authorities are ruling out gang activity. Given the backgrounds of the four who were shot, it seems reasonable that this is just a particularly heinous act of savagery.
UPDATE: Longhorn links to another story on this at nj.com:
During the proceedings, Larchire Carranza’s lawyer, Felix Lopex-Montalvo, said the defendant is an illegal immigrant from Peru.
“My client has no documentation,” said the lawyer, Felix Lopez-Montalvo.
In a news conference after the arraignment, Essex County Prosecutor Paula Dow and other officials would not comment on reporters’ repeated questions about whether prosecutors had reported Larchire Carranza’s illegal status to federal authorities after his two previous arrests, which included a charge of child rape.
Sweet Jesus, this guy should have been deported after his first arrest! Â Yet people like Bryan Miller use these incidents to call for further controls on guns, rather than further controls on criminals, especially illegal immigrant criminals who commit crimes, and ought to have been deported.
People like Bryan want to make sure you cannot protect yourself from these sociopaths.  If the government isn’t protecting us, I don’t think it’s unreasonable to ask tough questions of those who want to restrict the tools that allow for effective self-defense. It certainly did nothing to stop this illegal immigrant, already prohibited from purchasing or possessing firearms, from getting one, and committing an unspeakable act of violence.
Bank Robbery a Hazardous Profession
Via Zendo Deb, it seems that Bank Robbery is a rather hazardous profession. Good! Let’s make sure it stays that way.
Crimes of Violence
Joseph gets two links today.  This one for a quote from a US Attorney, who no doubt is eager to tout his prosecution of a whacky militia type, but done under the absurdities that are the National Firearms Act:
The mere possession of an AR 15 semiautomatic rifle with a barrel less than 16 inches is a crime of violence, he said.
So does that presume there’s nothing violent about having a 16 inch AR-15?   Get that folks?  Have a 14.5 inch M4 upper, violent nut case, 16 inch upper, you’re a OK.  Sounds a lot like the Canadian nonsense about pistol barrel lengths I linked to earlier.  See, we have our own nonsense too.
String of Armed Robberies in Center County
My fellow Pennsylvanians… can you explain to me how in rural county, in a state where 1 out of every 10 adults is licensed to carry a firearm how this guy hasn’t been scraped off a floor yet?  This guy seems to have a penchant for robbing chain pizza joints. I’d be willing to bet that’s not entirely coincidental, as they are more likely to be staffed by unarmed pimply teenagers. Hell, even in Philly robbing a mom and pop pizza joint is pretty likely to end with the robber dead on the floor.
Note to Criminals
If you take your car to the shop to get fixed up, be sure to remove any bodies that you might have stashed in the trunk.
Gun Stealing Losers Fight Law, Law Wins
Looks like the authorities here busted up a fairly significant burglary and gun trafficking ring that extended into Chester, Montgomery and Berks Counties. Kudos to Montgomery County DA Bruce Castor and the Pennsylvania State Police Troop K for helping make my collection just a little safer from these losers.
Good Advice
Chris Byrne has some good advice on how to handle a robbery situation. Sounds pretty sensible to me.
Man Shot in Colorado Coup Attempt
It’s not often the media show dead bodies on news stories, but I guess in this case they’ll make an exception:
The man claimed that “he was the emperor, and he was here to take over state government,” said Ritter’s spokesman, Evan Dreyer.
The guy apparently was wearing a tuxedo. Â If he was armed with an old fashioned flintlock pistol, that would pretty much complete the “stylish wacko” thing he looks like he was trying to put on.
Anyone know whether the Colorado State Capitol is a gun free zone? Based on my reading of their carry laws, it’s quite likely.
