The Mumbai Shooting

Dave Hardy contributes to the discussion about whether the Mumbai shootings would have been lessed if people had been able to be armed:

I’d agree there was a good chance casualties would have been reduced. Rush into a crowded room shooting, and there’s a big difference if the attacker has to worry about getting shot in the back. Not to mention about being perforated while he is changing magazines.

I agree, but it’s really a statistics game.  Given any number of armed people, a certain number of them, under fire, will turn out to not have what it takes.  One of the advantages to having a society where people can choose to be armed is that it increases the chances that someone with the right mix of traits will rise to the occasion, with the tools at hand to accomplish what needs to be done.

A mistake much of the left makes is assuming those we pay to be professional protectors are any better than the rest of us when real bullets start flying.  They are subject to the same psychology as the rest of us, and the same statistical gamble applies — they will just have somewhat better odds, having either thought about life and death situations to begin with, or having a military background, as many in law enforcement do.  But there’s plenty of people out there who have the mental and psychological capacity to come out on top in a firefight, even without extensive training. A smart society doesn’t restrict their ability to have vital tools at hand.  The more armed people that are about, the greater the likelihood that one of them will have the psychological makeup to prevail.  A smart society will want to make the greatest number of sheepdogs, with as few wolves and sheep as possible.  There will always be wolves, and there will always be sheep, but as long as there are many sheepdogs, polite society can flourish in safety.  Perhaps too much safety.

Robbery Victim Fights Back

Even in Delaware, it can happen.  We’ll see whether the guy in question had a license to carry.  Delaware is may issue, but if you jump through all the hoops, you can usually get your license.  It’s not like New Jersey.

Chalk One Up for the Good Guys

I wonder whether the Obama transition team would consider this a productive way to deal with urban violence.  Or perhaps they would have preferred the Barber be the one to get shot for not having enough money in his till.

One thing is for sure, that guy won’t be robbing any more businesses.  Mr. Cross did what he had to do.

Obama on Concealed Carry

Bucks Right has the audio of Obama saying he supports banning concealed carry of a firearm federally, despite 40 states allowing concealed carry with a license, and two that do not require any license.  I’d love to see Obama tell Alaskans they can’t carry guns.  It’s grizzly bear food you can believe in!

Hazel Township Allows Open Carry Picnic

Looks like Hazel Township relented on their illegal park ordinance.  Articles here, and here.  The open carry cookout proceeds, but in the cold rain and wind of October, rather than July as originally planned.

It’s Just A “Petty Offense”

Newsweek apparently thinks that when we say “Obama voted to criminalize self-defense with a gun in the home.” that it’s not true because what Obama voted for was merely a “Petty Offense” with a small $750 dollar fine:

The ad fails to mention that the issue was a local handgun ban that made the homeowner’s gun illegal to keep in the house.

What Obama voted for was not any general repeal of the right of self-defense, but to uphold enforcement of the local gun ban, a “petty offense” that carried a maximum penalty of a $750 fine.

Oh yeah, that makes it better.  Thanks Newsweek, for making our jobs easier!  They go on to detail that the commercial NRA is running as being false, and then talk about the real Hale DeMar story.  Perfect!

Seriously, the media is so out of touch they don’t realize just how offensive the true “true story” of what Obama really voted for is to a very large number of Americans.  If you can’t use a firearm to defend yourself in your home, without risking a government fine, then self-defense with a gun in the home is a crime.  Period.  That’s what Obama voted for.

The Scarlet Letter

Apparently armed robbers are in the tank for Obama too:

Pittsburgh police spokeswoman Diane Richard tells Channel 4 Action News that the victim was robbed at knifepoint on Wednesday night outside of a Citizens Bank near Liberty Avenue and Pearl Street just before 9 p.m.

Richard said the robber took $60 from the woman, then became angry when he saw a McCain bumper sticker on the victim’s car. The attacker then punched and kicked the victim, before using the knife to scratch the letter “B” into her face, Richard said.

I guess this guy misheard the campaign’s slogan as “Gimma all the change you’ve got so I can believe in it!”  My car sticker says “Sportsmen for McCain” on it, which hopefully would be enough to allow Mr. Scarlet Letter give to realize that his intended victim will respond with 9mm “O”s to any attempt to carve a “B”.

UPDATE: Upon further questioning, it appears there’s a lot to be skeptical of here.

UPDATE: Yep, it’s a hoax.  Man, what an attention whoring tool this chick is.  She’s facing charges.  Good.
