Animal Rights Dorks Vandalizing Duck Blinds

“Extend the circle of love to all creatures.” You know, except for duck hunters I guess.  You know who else eat ducks?  Foxes.  You don’t see the animal rights loons spray painting foxes, do you?

Changing Laws, Changing Fashions

I found this interesting that hunters in England are changing their dress to avoid being noticed.

The huntsman’s red coat – a totemic image of hunting for more than 200 years – is one of the main casualties of the sport since the hunting ban came into force four years ago.

Many hunts have decided to abandon their scarlet (known as pink) jackets in favour of tweed or dark coats in an attempt to be less conspicuous and avoid scrutiny. …

Fear of harassment and malicious prosecution from activists have made hunts significantly more covert. Many no longer publicise the dates, times and venues for meets on websites or even post notices in a village pub or community centre.

Apparently, many clubs will go back to using red coats if the hunting ban is ever repealed.

Will it be repealed?  That’s hard to say.  Obviously, I’m not on the ground to be able to judge the political climate on the issue, but the hunt clubs seem to have some hope.  However, the anti-hunting forces claim public opinion is on their side.  Given that they cite a poll they funded, it’s hard to say how accurate it may be.

Some Positive Developments For Hunting in New Jersey

At least one senator is trying to get a bear hunt approved, and they have formed a sportsmen caucus:

Hoping to give sportsmen a better voice in the Legislature, and to help educate his colleagues, Sweeney initiated and organized a bi-partisan group of lawmakers and sportsmen: the recently inaugurated New Jersey Angling and Hunting Conservation Caucus (NJAHCC).

It’s a small step, but these things aren’t won by leaps and bounds.

Bias in the Media

The Great Falls Tribune printed an editorial that criticized the National Rifle Association, and then would not even offer the courtesy of printing a reply.  It’s hard to get our message out there when the media is actively conspiring to keep it out of the public light.  And they wonder why the print media is contracting faster than a neutron star.

The Bear Truth

New Jersey is overrun with bears.  More dangerously, they are losing their fear of humans.  It’s really only a matter of time before there’s a horrible incident.  Some politicians in New Jersey are beginning to criticize Jon Corzine, who’s caved to the animal rights folks on having a bear hunt:

“The Governor’s bear management policies are based on little more than a reflexive opposition to hunting, disregard of science and a dose of wishful thinking,” said Oroho. “The numbers compiled by the Division of Fish and Wildlife demonstrate a different approach is adamantly necessary.”

We’ll see how cute the animal rights people think the bears are when they end up preying on children because the habitate available can’t sufficiently feed them.

UPDATE: In the mean time, we’re having a record bear harvest over here.

Mixed Messages

This is pretty friggin funny.  The anti-freedom crowd can’t seem to get their messaging together.  Delaware recently passed a low allowing for handgun hunting.   Apparently Freedom States Alliance says handguns are way too powerful for hunting, while HSUS argues that they aren’t powerful enough.  Perhaps it might occur to some people that both groups are full of crap.
