No Chicken Pin!

Apparently I was supposed to note that I should get a pin on last week’s score, so this week I didn’t get my chicken pin.   No fear though, because this week I also shot 10 chickens in a row, and was careful to note it properly this time, so next week I will have my chicken pin.

Sorry for the slow posting, tonight was Silhouette obviously, and also… Lost is back!  Which means I watch after coming back from shooting metal animals.

Bitter’s Pork Shoulder

Bitter made a fabulous crock pot meal of collard greens, pork shoulder, and dumplings, all slow cooked in the croc pot. I have to say that it was excellent. The smell of pork in the air is absolutely heavenly. It’s times like this I am very glad I’m not a Jew or a Muslim. They don’t know what they are missing.

UPDATE: Mmmmmm

Car Troubles

Looks like I wasn’t the only one who had to spend time at a car dealership today. Once I got here to Bitter’s, I noticed my car didn’t want to turn at the intersection, which is when I noticed it had stalled. Its idling rough, and at very low RPM. Check engine light is on. I’m figuring an O2 sensor on the engine is acting up and the computer is running the engine too rich. The dealership I took it to hasn’t read the code off the engine yet. We shall see when they call me. Unlike Ahab, I didn’t bring a copy of American Rifleman, but the Honda dealership is right down the road from NRA headquarters.

UPDATE: Turns out the code indicates the computer wasn’t reading anything from the throttle body.  When the dealer tested the throttle body itself, it was fine.  They couldn’t get it to produce the code again.  I’m going to take it home.  If it happens again I’ll get the throttle body replaced.  Hopefully it was a bump in the night type thing.

Happy Birthday To Bitter

Yes, today is Bitter‘s birthday, and it’s driving her absolutely batty that I’ve been working on a nice birthday present for her (the kind that goes BANG!), and certain other bloggers know what she’s getting and she doesn’t. It’s going to have to be a little belated this year, as none of the local FFLs I know had one in stock, but Traction Control. That’s OK though, because she’s not really going to need it until spring.

Oh, also, yesterday was Aquarium Day.  For those that don’t get the reference, our first date was at the Baltimore Aquarium.

A Personal Favor

A friend of mine who is in the process of getting a romance novel published is hoping to take first place in a cover competition. Anne Marie and her daughter were kind enough to let Bitter and I come to her farm for a few days last March for some shooty goodness. I’d certainly appreciate it if you’d stop by and place a vote.

Reason Magazine

I used to be a subscriber to Reason back in the days when Virginia Postrel ran the show. Hit and Run was actually the first blog I started reading. But sometime in the early part of the decade I just stopped reading. Something had changed. I didn’t know if it was me that changed, the magazine, or a little bit of both.

Either way, I no longer subscribe, because while I still self-identify as a classical liberal, the style just seems to have changed under Nick Gillespie such that it no longer really appeals to me. Maybe it’s meant to appeal to a younger crowd, and I’m just getting old. Anyone else been a reader and think it’s gone downhill?

Find a Job for Bitter

Bitter is looking for a job around my parts.

I need to get out of here.  Anyone got job tips for the northern suburbs of Philadelphia?  Feel free to shoot me an email.  This apartment complex, since being sold  a few months ago, is quickly turning into slums.  Crime will start going up.  I always figured such a dramatic turnaround took longer because leases had to end, new people had to come in, it would take them a while to start causing trouble.   Even Sebastian can tell a difference only being down here every other weekend.

It would help me out too, because I’m tired of driving to DC, and her apartment complex does indeed suck rocks.  I have indeed noticed it heading downhill.  Right now, there’s a lot of noisy tenants who like to play loud music and leave trash laying around, but it’s only a matter of time before real problems start, like people breaking into cars and other such behavior.

Home Crap Home

I have arrived back in the Philadelphia area to my nice warm 55 degree house.  It’ll be painful while I wait for the house to come back up to temperature.  When I plan to be away for a while, I drain the plumbing and turn down the heat so I’m not burning through cash while I’m away.  While I enjoy traveling away from home, I will be happy to rest my aching back in my own bed tonight for the first time in a week and a half.
