Virginia This Weekend

I’ll be traveling to see Bitter this weekend.  We haven’t seen each other in three weeks now, because of the Gun Blogger Rendezvous, and because of Bitter ditching me last weekend, only to get ditched by the friend she ditched me for.   It was a chain reaction of ditching.

But this weekend it’s Virginia or Bust.  We have a Halloween party to go to on Saturday night, but if anyone else has suggestions for DC area things to do, I’m all ears.  I’ve been itching to do a hike to admire the fall colors.  Is there any good hiking in or near Fairfax county?

Breaking the Tradition

Well, I had a rule that on weekends where Bitter and I didn’t see each other, I’d buy a gun. I’m going to have to break with that tradition. Last weekend, technically I only bought an upper. Looks like we’re not going to see each other this weekend either, and I just don’t have the funds to continue with my little tradition here.

UPDATE: Maybe not

4AM and I Just Got Home

Impressions of the trip home:

  1. Flying sucks
  2. When traveling cross country with a connecting flight, fly early to account for delays
  3. Airports with free WiFi rock
  4. Philadelphia is a sewer, and the airport is the first indication of that which incoming travelers are exposed to.

That is all.  Posting tomorrow may be light, as I may be sitting at my desk at work completely zombified from the trip.

Flying Sucks

So, it seems that I will be delayed a good bit getting out of Reno.  Fortunately, their airport has free WiFi.  By some fortunate circumstance, my flight from Dallas to Philly is delayed by the same amount.   I will still make my connection, but I won’t be getting into Philly until hella late.

TSA check-in with the firearms went without a hitch.  The airline dude even had the unloaded firearms declaration out without me even saying anything.  Apparently booze counts as a flammable liquid if it’s over 80 proof.  That makes my Captain’s Spiced bottle fine for flying, but apparently 151 proof would be treated like gasoline.  I can understand that though.

Clearly Jadegold will use this as evidence of dangerous gun play by having my bottle of Captain Morgan in the same luggage hold as my rifle.  They could get quite a party going on in there.

Departing Shot

Getting ready to leave the hotel to head to the airport.  Here’s the view from the hotel room at Circus Circus that SayUncle and I stayed in:

Nevada is beautiful, but the dry weather and dust has made my sinuses and throat less than happy.  It’s been nice, but I’ll be happy to be home.

Goodbye Reno

I fly out today at 2:30.  First is breakfast with the remaining crowd, then I’ll be getting ready to leave.  Hopefully the TSA and the airline knows the difference between fired brass and ammunition, or they might make me dump the lot of 6.8 SPC brass I have that’s not in the original case.

I had a really fantastic time here.  Those of you who didn’t come are losers.   I’ll be blogging more about the GBR later, but for now I just want everyone to know we have a great bunch of guys out there who are the bloggers we all know and read.  Every one of them, to a man (or woman), are really nice people who are a lot of fun to be around.  I hope you’ll all come out here and join us next year.

The rest of the day will be mostly travel, but I’ve enlisted the help of Ahab over at Call me Ahab to keep you all from getting bored.

Liquored Up Posting

Well, I certainly went off on The Governator in a manner I otherwise would not have, had I not been partially intoxicated, tired, and had just lost money in the casinos.

It would seem to me that the casino industry is basically about getting people drunk enough that they are stupid enough to stick their money into machines that then take it, and make you question whether the flashing lights and spinning wheels are from the booze or are the sounds of the machine taking your cash.  Either way, I’m not a gambler, so I agreed ahead of time to lose about 50 bucks.  I’m not there yet, but will be by the time I depart tomorrow.

I thought about going back and revising the post about Arnold, but then I realized he deserved every bit of it.

Getting Ready for Reno

So much to do before I head of to Reno, Nevada for the Gun Blogger Rendezvous tomorrow at an ungodly hour.   First, I have to put my AR-15 back together!  I needed to clean it, because it was getting FTFs at the range earlier in the week.  Apparently we’ll be shooting steel targets at like 400 yards, so I needed to take the scoped AR, which I haven’t cleaned up in forever.  Needless to say, I’ve never shot at that distance in my life, so I’m eager to try.

Also, don’t forget to listen to Ahab on “Cam & Company” over at nranews.com at 11.
