Patrick Murphy Signs on to National Concealed Carry

Patrick Murphy has cosponsored H.R. 861, the National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Act.  According to Thomas, he signed on as a cosponsor on July 22nd.  That’s a few days after we got a visit from one is his perky volunteers.  I should note that Congressman Murphy has used his concealed carry license as political cover on this issue before.  Hell, even I bought it before I had idea what his record would be.

But the fact of the matter is the guy signed on to a pretty serious and draconian ban of most semi-automatic firearms, including the most popular target rifles that are sold in the US today.  He also is conspicously absent from the Congressional Amicus Brief supporting Mr. Heller in overturning the ban on guns in Washington D.C.  Patrick Murphy was one of only six members of the Pennsylvania Congressional delegation who did not sign on to the brief.

One wonders how Congressman Murphy thinks we’re supposed to carry guns, when he doesn’t seem to have any issue with guns being banned.

EVC Site

We have established a web site for our EVC activities in Pennsylvania’s 8th Congressional District.  Obviously one of the main things we wanted to highlight was Congressman Patrick Murphy’s record on guns.  We will be developing fliers to distribute to clubs, ranges and gun shops, to make sure folks know that Patrick Murphy would like to make sure folks like this find it difficult or impossible to compete in their chosen sport.  No doubt that many clay shooters and bird hunters would be interested to discover the poor wording in HR1022 bans all semi-automatic shotguns as well.

We will be as ready as we can hope to be once the endorsements come out.

Discharge Petition

NRA is twisting arms to get DC’s firearms laws fixed.  What’s going on here is that leadership in Congress does not want to force their colleagues to take a stand on gun control in an election year, because, let’s be honest, a lot of Democrats are anti-gun, and think DC’s revised laws are just fine.  But who wants to come out against the Bill of Rights in an election year?  Even Obama has run like hell from his previous position on DC’s ban.

Democrats have a chance to retreat here, and I’m glad that NRA is twisting blue dog arms.  They have to take a leadership position on this issue within their party.

Election Volunteer Coordinators

One of the things you can do with NRA is being an Election Volunteer Coordinator, or EVC.  If your district has no EVC, you should sign up.  It won’t take an ungodly amount of your time, and it’s a tremendous help.  The only way gun owners win is by winning elections; by working to defeat anti-gun politicians and replace them with pro-gun politicians.  It’s the meat and potatoes of the game.  Someone just signed up for the EVC slot in my (PA-08) congressional district.

I don’t know who that guy is, but I hear he has a really bitchin’ girlfriend, who has agreed to help him out with all the various EVC activities.  Why did this highly creative and smart individual decide to become an EVC?

You see, Congressman Patrick Murphy signed onto McCarthy’s assault weapons ban, HR1022.  That has consequences.  One consequence is that this new tall and handsome EVC will make sure every gun owner in in Bucks County, and there are a lot of us, have heard that they have a Congressman who likes to cosponsor gun bans in his spare time.

We may not unseat Patrick Murphy this time around.  We may not get him next time.  But if he continues to support gun control, we will defeat him… and his little dog too!

NRA Backing Monica Douglas

NRA-PVF has gotten behind the campaign of Monica Douglas, who is attempting to unseat Representative David Levdansky.  We hope Ms. Douglas is successful in her bid, because it would be a huge boost for gun rights in Pennsylvania.

If you would like to volunteer for her campaign, and I think you should if you can, you can go here.

John McCain’s New York Times Op-Ed

Instapundit, and some of our Philadelphia area bloggers have been covering the fact that the New York Times refused to run an op-ed by John McCain despite running one by Obama.  You have to wonder about the judgement of a newspaper jerking around a Senator who has displayed not too strong a penchant for respecting the first amendment.  Paybacks can be hell for crossing McCain.  Just ask NRA.

Gunning for Levdansky’s Assembly Seat

State Representative David Levdansky has been talked about quite a bit on this blog, because he was the primary architect of the failed “Lost and Stolen” bill in the Pennsylvania General Assembly.  We’re fortunate that we have an opponent running for Levdansky’s seat this November.  Monica Douglas is a solid pro-gun candidate, but she needs help this election in order to successfully challenge the incumbent.

This may well be the most important race for Pennsylvania gun owners in the entire assembly this year, because if we can defeat Representative Levdansky, or even come close to defeating him, we will send a message to every other politician in the assembly that supporting gun control will cost them personally, and puts their seat in jeopardy.

This is how gun rights are won and kept.  Please consider donating money, or if you’re in our near her district, donating time to help her campaign.  If we can elect Monica Douglas to the General Assembly, we’ll be doing every gun owner in this commonwealth a great service.
