Patriot Corporations

Simon’s title here is quite apt.  This is what Obama wants to do to our country:

I’ve talked to Barack a lot about his Patriot Corporation Act, which is not trade per se, but it’s certainly part of the economic package around globalization. The Patriot Corporation Act has not gotten the attention that I would hope it would. But, basically it says that if you play by the rules, if you pay decent wages, health benefits, pension; do your production here; don’t resist unionization on neutral card check, then you will be designated a “Patriot Corporation” and you will get tax advantages and some [preference] on government contracts.

He must be stopped.   Still think McCain is just as bad?

Settling? You Bet.

Jim Geraghty talks about his choice in the Virginia primary:

If somebody out there is saying, “Jim, you’re settling,” I respond, “Well, yeah. Welcome to politics. In fact, welcome to life.” I can hold myself to the highest of standards, but if I hold politicians to that, I’ll always be disappointed. You rarely get somebody who agrees with you 10 out of 10 times. And some folks are acting like they’ve never had their preferred candidate lose a primary before. It happens. Sometimes the electorate prefers the war veteran with some non-conservative stands to the guys who check all the boxes. I’m not going to rage at Republican primary voters in this process; they’ve made their call.

Read the whole thing.  I feel the same way.

Ed Rendell Thinks America Not Ready

Not ready for a black man to be President.

Gov. Ed Rendell, one of Hillary Rodham Clinton’s most visible supporters, said some white Pennsylvanians are likely to vote against her rival Barack Obama because he is black.

“You’ve got conservative whites here, and I think there are some whites who are probably not ready to vote for an African-American candidate,” Rendell told the editorial board of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette in remarks that appeared in Tuesday’s paper.

Seriously, that’s almost disgusting enough, and insulting enough to my state, to make me switch my registration to Democrat to vote for Obama. Who are you to say Pennsylvanians are racist Ed? You’re a Jew, and we elected you, didn’t we?

Thanks to Wyatt Earp for the pointer.

Obama Slaps Hillary Silly in VA

So far the total is 62% (!!!) to 37%. I really shouldn’t enjoy her being defeated so much, especially considering he’s every bit the socialist she is, but there’s just something satisfying about Americans telling Hillary to take a hike.

UPDATE: Joe Huffman has more.  I agree it’s not rational, but I still can’t help but feeling good about it.

Did He Do it on Purpose?

Radley Balko presents a pretty compelling case that Bill might have subconsciously sabotaged his wife’s campaign.  My first thought on the matter was “Man, Clinton must be losing his mojo.  He never would have made a mistake like that when he was the man.”

But you do have to wonder if it was deliberate, either subconsciously or not.  I would speculate whether perhaps Hillary’s campaign wanted to play that card, and Bill just decided to follow orders, rather than tell someone “You know, this is probably a bad idea.”

Ron Paul Spoiling McCain in Washington

Washington State is not known for having a hefty evangelical vote, which is why I was shocked to hear that Huckabee was coming close to him in the state caucus.  Turns out that McCain is pulling down 26 to Huckabee’s 24.  Where’s the rest you might ask?  Ron Paul us running at 21% in the caucuses.   Someone in Ron Paul’s camp in Washington State really has their shit together if they got enough people out to their caucuses.

I’ve said before that Ron Paul isn’t a guy you can build a serious political movement around, but there is something behind it that the GOP can’t really ignore.   The same can be said of Mike Huckabee.  The Republicans would appear to continue to be refusing to unite behind a single candidate.  The media reported that McCain has this thing locked up.   Ohio and Texas are going to be critical for McCain.  If McCain loses both of them, Pennsylvania might actually matter, which means I will need to think carefully before deciding to lodge a protest vote.

Fred for VP!

So, McCain as the nominee is pretty much a done deal at this point.  Now our best hope is that he nominates a reasonable Vice President.  Huckabee has already said he’d take the post if offered, which means he wants it.  Huckabee can win in the South, as he’s demonstrated, but if he picks Jimmy Mike, then there’s two names on the ticket, with neither one of them being “conservative” (whatever that means) in the eyes of Republican voters.

So why not send Huckabee back to Arkansas, and give Fred Thompson a call?  I’m certainly not the first to suggest it, but I think a McCain/Thompson ticket would be a strong one.  Let’s face it, McCain will be assuming office at the age of 72 if he’s sworn in as our next President, and you have to imagine that spending five and a half years being tortured by the North Vietnamese and having to live in your own filth probably isn’t very good for longevity.   McCain’s Vice Presidential pick is important.

Thompson would help McCain gain back some of that conservative street creds that he’s been lacking in recent years, and would definitely help sweeten an otherwise bitter medicine.  Fred Thompson is pretty clearly McCain’s best choice for Vice President.  Let’s hope it’s McCain/Thompson ’08.

Mitt’s Out

Mitt Romney is suspending his presidential campaign.  It is now down to John McCain and Mike Huckabee.  Rumor has it, Romney has been on the phone to hell bitching that Satan has not held up his end of the bargain.  No word yet on whether Mitt will get his soul returned to him.
