Scott Bach goes over the details. Apparently we’re a threat to public safety and potential criminals, in regards to the Thune Amendment. Call your Senators, even if you’re in New Jersey or New York. Don’t let the Lautenbergs, Menendezs and Schumers of the world feel confident they don’t have constituents they are upsetting with the crap they are spewing about gun owners.

More One Gun a Month Trouble in New Jersey
People are starting to figure out just how smelly of a turd this law is. Corzine is promising his commission will do their best to polish it, though. Fred Madden doesn’t seem that worried. I still wonder what Corzine bought him off with.
I agree with Cemetery it’s rather surprising this wasn’t picked up by NRA or ANJRPC, but anyone who’s ever tried to decipher New Jersey’s gun laws knows how complicated and convoluted they are. Evan Nappen is one of the few real experts out there on the subject.
My Statement to MADD
Follow up to the post from earlier.
I had to go to Princeton, NJ to find it. On the way back, the evil the Exit 4 Trippel emitted did not cause me to swerve between lanes. Really odd. After drinking the whole bottle, I feel a mild buzz, but strangely do not feel the need to hop in my car and go terrorize the New Jersey Turnpike. No, I think I’ll stay here and chill on my patio.
I thought for sure this strange potion would have some kind of spell on me, Demon Belgian Ale apparently being a common intoxicant of drunk drivers. The neo-prohibitionists at MADD can now officially bite me.
Well-Timed Ads
I love a well-timed political ad. If it’s relevant to the news cycle, people can identify with it and it makes politics seem a little more relevant. Most folks I know pay more attention to relevant political ads rather than the ones that rehash the same debates that aren’t even up for debate anymore, i.e. abortion or other issues that simply aren’t even up for debate in the current political climate.
That said, Jon Corzine, in an effort to pull up his dismal poll results, is bringing in President Obama to campaign for him today. Considering that Corzine is doing at the state level what Obama wants to do at the federal level, the White House want to make sure that Corzine wins. Otherwise, I’m sure they fear that a Democratic loss would be considered a mandate against the President from a solid blue state like New Jersey. If Virginia goes back into the hands of the GOP, then they really have a problem on their hands.
In response to Obama’s visit today, Chris Christie’s campaign put out this very timely web video:
I love the enthusiasm of the last voter. She’s quite excited.
I love it, lots of NJ voters who drank the HopeChange Kool-Aid and now realize that the HopeChange is a little bitter. They see the tax hikes, cancellation of tax rebates, and massive debts as a bad thing. I love the relevance, and I hope this gets some airtime in the MSM today. It’s relevant to the story of Obama visiting and the latest poll numbers, so there’s a good chance it could get picked up as part of a news story.
It’s a Flying Fish Weekend for Us
Apparently neo-prohibitionist group MADD is angry at Flying Fish brewery over in New Jersey for naming one of their beers “Exit 4 American Trippel.” Apparently unaware that people in New Jersey locate other New Jerseyans through “What exit are you at,” MADD seems to feel that any association with highways and beer is entirely wrong, and promotes drinking drunk driving. Apparently the New Jersey Turnpike Authority is worried people might think they have suddenly turned into a microbrewery, and are taking notice.
I’ve always liked Flying Fish beers, so if you’re in an area you can get it, have some this weekend. I’m particularly going to try to track down some Exit 4 Trippel, and enjoy a few bottles out on my patio, just as a nice f**k you to MADD. What’s next? Calling the FAA and bitching that their name and logo promote drinking and flying? Hang in there Flying Fish. Don’t let the nannies win.

Gun Women in New Jersey
Scott Bach and the rest of the crew at ANJRPC appear to have put on quite an event this weekend. They taught about 300 women how to shoot everything from handguns to ARs.
Women’s Day at the Range has been a tradition at the Cherry Ridge Range off Canistear Road in Vernon for about 10 years, said Scott Bach, president of the Association of New Jersey Rifle and Pistol Clubs.
The event is one of several outreach programs the association hosts to promote shooting sports and the Second Amendment right to bear arms.
Organizers said they initiated the free program to give women a fun day without male interference, especially since women are taking up shooting sports at a record pace.
Everyone has a different reason for attending the program, Bach said.
“Shooting is fun,” he said, adding, “It’s a skill that can save your life.”
The Bear Facts
Outdoor Writer J.B. Kasper, who also happens to be one of the guys I shoot with on Thursday nights, has an article in the Trenton Times talking about the bear problem in New Jersey:
This is typical of how bear incidents are handled by the DEP. Of course this one was a little too big to be covered up. According to a statement by Harry Herrighty, deputy director of the DF&W: “At this point, it just doesn’t seem we will be able to label this as an attack on a person. He had no bruises, claw marks or scratches or even a ripped shirt that indicates it was a purposeful attack by the bear.” So I guess what Mr. Herrighty is saying is that the black eye, the cut across the temple and the separated shoulder were the bear’s way of saying get out of my way I want your sandwich? I wonder if Mr. Herrighty found himself in Mr. Rowendal place, how would he describe the event?
Read the whole thing. Bears are powerful critters, and we can see in this example what “out of my way” can mean to a bear. I’ve heard stories of bears just ripping the doors clean off a car to get to food inside. Once inside, you car can look like this. Back to Joe:
It’s about time someone in the Corzine Administration, in specific the DEP, wakes up. Bears are not the cuddly little creatures we see in cartoons and Hollywood movies. From the period of January 1 through May 20, the DEP has received 693 calls about bears, which is over 100 more than the same period last year. Seventy-one of those calls pertained to livestock deaths, home break-ins and aggressive behavior. A total of 42 of the calls were classified as Category 1 incidents, which is up from 33 for the same period last year. Seven aggressive bears have had to be killed so far this year.
Joe’s conclusion is that the only way to reduce bear numbers to a manageable level in New Jersey is through hunting. I just hope it doesn’t have to come to a child being killed or mauled by a bear before the policymakers and voters in the Garden State come to realize that.
Article on Gun Rationing Law
Fred “One-Gun-a-Month” Madden seems to be trying to get some cover in the media, and I guess Bryan Miller called in some favors from his buddies at the Inquirer:
Corzine pushed the bill through the Legislature late last month only after agreeing to create a task-force team whose first job will be considering amendments to ensure that collectors, competitive shooters, and recreational gun users “are not adversely affected.”
That could open the door for exceptions.
With the plan stuck one vote short of passage in the Senate, the compromise was needed to win over Sen. Fred Madden (D., Gloucester), who agreed to vote “yes” on the condition that concerns of law-abiding gun users – specifically collectors and competitive shooters – were addressed.
So pass a bad law first, and then go back and fix it later. Always a winning strategy! Then you have Bryan saying the same thing:
“We don’t want to create any problems for the hunters, for competitive shooters, for legitimate collectors. If we can find a way to make it easier for legitimate competitive shooters, great,” Miller said.
How do you define a “legitimate competitive shooter?” or “legitimate collector?” There’s no certificate, you know. Am I a legitimate competitive shooter? How can you tell?
But via SayUncle, we have a new study from the Joyce Foundation. You know what it concluded?
The study found no effect on gun trafficking within the state from laws limiting handgun sales to a maximum of one gun per person per month.
Got that? Even Bryan’s funders can’t find evidence this law does anything. So why do we need it in New Jersey?
More on Fred Madden
Cemetery has a link to a letter he receieved from Fred “One-Gun-a-Month” Madden, assuring him that he was against the the one-gun-a-month bill. Looks like New Jersey Coalition for Self-Defense picked up on this one too. I wonder what Fred’s spiel is now?
Fred Madden Does Not Support Law Enforcement
New Jersey Senator Fred Madden and Governor Corzine apparently thinks it ought to be harder for law enforcement officers to get the firearms they need to protect themselves while on duty. While the New Jersey one-gun-a-month law provides exceptions for law enforcement, it doesn’t offer exemptions for the dealers many smaller law enforcement agencies purchase firearms from. Agencies that are too small for distributors to deal with directly.
