Ed’s C.R.A.P.

According to Wyatt our Governor thinks people in Chester share the European love of Soccer, and thinks they are deserving of considerable “Capital-Redevelopment Assistance Program” (read tax dollars) to build a stadium.  I grew up 3 miles outside of Chester, and I’m pretty sure that no one in Delaware County likes soccer enough to make a trip to Chester.

Let me just give you an idea of how bad Chester is.  When I was growing up, it was well known not to enter the city at night, or really during the day either.  Carjackings were not unheard of, and a few folks were dragged out of their cars and beaten for being at the wrong stoplight at the wrong time.

Thanks to PennDOT’s I-95 construction fiasco, I have been forced to drive through Chester on my way back from seeing Bitter on a few occasions.  Normally I just lock the Glock in the case for the whole ride, thanks to the Great State of Maryland, which is most of the transit miles between here in DC.  But when I have to drive through Chester, I make sure to stop at Delaware’s “Lock & Load” (also known as Service) Plaza and crack Mr. Glock out of his case, load it up, and get ready to do the Route 13 bypass at 1:00 in the morning.

Chester actually seems to look a little better these days than I remember it, but it’ll take a lot more than a soccer stadium to turn that city around.  I’d say our governor is smoking crack on this, but it looks to me like a way to pay off his political supporters, rather than something he really expects will make a difference.   A pity we’ll all have to pay for it.

Huckabee on the Second

About 4 minutes and thirty seconds into the video, until about 7 minutes.  Mike Huckabee talks about his views on the second amendment:

A sharp contrast from Hillary’s “I support the second amendment” nonsense.  Hell, a sharp contrast to Bush if you ask me.

Family Values in Singapore

I’m not sure I’d hold out Singapore as an example of how to run a healthy society. To be fair to Clayton, the only point he made was that anti-gay conservative values aren’t limited to the Christian right, which is a correct assessment. But I think it’s worthwhile to point out that Singapore is hardly a free society, and despite these claims from MPs:

“We were right to uphold the family unit when Western countries went for experimental lifestyles in the 1960s — the hippies, free love,” he said.

“But I’m glad we did that because today if you look at Western Europe, the marriage as an institution is dead, families have broken down, the majority of children are born out of wedlock and live in families where the father and the mother are not husband and wife living together bringing them up.”

Singapore has a number or serious social problems.  Of course, what Mr. Lee failed to mention was that despite their promotion of wholesome family values, Singapore has experienced a drop in marriage rates, fertility rates, has experienced a soaring divorce rate, and is thus heading for the demographic sewer along with all the other western countries who social policies he claims have failed them.  Maybe that’s true, but it doesn’t look like Singapore’s conservative social policies are faring any better.

The Tech Vote

Interesting article on how the tech vote is shaping up. On the Republican side, it would appear Silicon Valley has a strong preference for Mitt Romney, which is further indication that people who live there have gone insane, or are under a spell from Mitt’s hair, which is a result of a deal he signed with Satan quite some time ago.

This probably shouldn’t be much of a surprise that he’s raising so much Silicon Valley dough, considering he has the CEO of eBay backing his campaign finances, which is something that might concern gun owners:

But at a meeting in January 1999, Whitman and eBay board member Howard Schultz (who is also the chairman of Starbucks) led the push to get guns off of the site. “Having them up there just wasn’t appropriate,” Whitman says. “It didn’t fit in with the kind of company we wanted to be.”In the spring of 1999, Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado was racked by more than a dozen deaths as two students opened fire on classmates. None of the firearms involved had come from eBay. But as the implications of that event sunk in, eBay became ever stricter about what it would sell.

Firecrackers and police badges were banned. Tobacco products were declared off-limits, and wine sales were severely restricted. And new software, which would automatically search for sale listings that included keywords associated with “hate commerce,” was released. Those listings would then be purged from the site, and a customer-service specialist would review them to see if there was any reason to allow such a listing.

But we all know Mitt is freedom’s best friend now, right? I’m not buying it. Perhaps I am impervious to his satanic hair spell, or perhaps it’s just given his past, I’m just not feeling good about him, and the momentum he seems to have with certain segments of the Republican Party, namely the ones with money.

What’s wrong with you rich people? We can’t let Mr. Satan Hair walk away with the nomination!

Outrageous

Tam posted something a few days ago on “Pedophile Acres”, a name given to a trailer park in Florida that is heavily populated by sex offenders.   I pointed out in the comments:

I’m with a lot of the other readers. Most people think “sex offender” means someone who rapes children. Not so. I had a friend got nailed for being topless on a deserted beach, and plead to disorderly because indecent would have labeled her a sex offender and required registration. Nor do I think it just that the life of a 19 year old is ruined forever because he had sex with his 16 year old girlfriend, which can happen in some states. My father was concerned when he found out a sex offender had moved into the neighborhood, until he found out his offense was mooning someone… got charged with indecent.

The government has blown all credibility on this issue with me. I don’t favor sex offender registries anymore, because I wouldn’t be surprised to found out that most of the folks on it are not really any danger so society.

Well, today, Glenn linked to a piece that basically details exactly what I was talking about.  If the states were using these registries to mark truly dangerous people, I wouldn’t have as much of an issue with it, but they aren’t.  This has become one more way for politicians to look like they are getting tough on crime, without actually accomplishing anything.  People hear “sex offender” and automatically assume the worst, and the worms in charge are only too happy to capitalize on it.

Henry Repeating Arms Relocates

Henry Repeating Arms Company, unbeknown to me, was located in Brooklyn.   Apparently they are moving to New Jersey.   I guess a bit of a step up in the gun rights world, but it makes you wonder why they didn’t go a little farther to Pennsylvania.  Our taxes are lower than New Jersey’s, and there’s little danger of the state outlawing their product.
