Charging Reporters with the Crime of Journalism

A government-approved contract staffer decided to release just enough information to give people the heads up that there is a surveillance program happening that many people may not find to be constitutional. Yet, the media who so obviously support Obama decide that the reporter who broke the story must be punished for the crime of reporting something unfavorable to the government.

In West Virginia, we see something similar happening when it comes to reporting the story of a prosecutor going after a minor for wearing a pro-Second Amendment t-shirt. When the tide turns against the government agent, the judge orders the reporter barred from the courthouse to keep her from filing a petition on behalf of the press in a gag order hearing and the bailiff enforcing the ban threatened the reporter with arrest after reaching to take her camera and microphone. The prosecutor apparently claimed that the state was trying to silence the teen’s legal team and family for their own good.

Dear West Virginia freedom supporters: The judge who ordered the media banned from the courthouse is elected. You can fix this and send him a message about limits on his power. The prosecutor overseeing the two staff attorneys who insist that court orders silencing defendants are the best things for society and individuals is also elected, and his name is John W. Bennett. There you go; you have tools to make positive changes in your local community. (h/t to Miguel for the link on the WV case)

Manchin Unveils Ads

He was on The Morning Joe on MSNBC this morning. You can follow and see the videos. He asks for West Virginians to call the NRA and tell them to support background checks. I’m sure the phones are going to be ringing off the hooks in Fairfax over this one.

On Monday, Manchin unveiled plans toÂ match the NRAÂ by pulling from his re-election war chest to bankroll a counter-attack ad buyâ€”an unusual move for a just-reelected senator.

Good. Make him spend money. We’re going to have running fights over the next six years as we try to punish all the people involved with this latest gun control push. We have to have long memories and be committed to a lengthy fight.

And Here I am Without Champagne

Lautenberg is dead. I’m not going to mourn or say nice things about a Senator who made a career out of pissing on individual freedom and liberty, and trying to be everyone’s friggin mother. There was hardly a nanny law passed into existence that he either didn’t spearhead or sponsor.Â I don’t mourn the passing of tyrants who want to control everyone’s lives. Christie gets to name a successor, at least until a special election, so it looks like he’ll be running with a Senate candidate. His own personal popularity could help flip that seat to the R-column, at least temporarily.

I’d Like a Phaser Too

A Massachusetts Democrat introduces a bill in the House that would mandate smart guns, because he says the technology totally exists. I think what we really need is a Smart Congress Law… a technology that would automatically recognize the Constitution and only allow lawmaking duly authorized.

So Many Lies…

The district he represents will never be competitive, but I would still like to think that the constituents of Rep. Chakah Fattah’s district deserve better than being lied to about what the laws are surrounding gun sales in Pennsylvania.

It’s just such flagrant disrespect, especially to a crowd of seemingly older folks who he probably views as too passive to actually challenge his fact-challenged anti-gun rant.

Saturday Night Update

Well, the good news is that we’re on to finishing touches of real work in our basement renovation – shelving, picking out carpet, and other room details before buying the furniture. The bad news is that this means we weren’t around to blog. Here are some highlights we missed today.

Banned magazine smuggler David Gregory is hosting a debate between Wayne LaPierre & Mike Bloomberg on Meet the Press in the morning.

The Senate voted in the early morning hours to ban the Obama Administration from signing onto the UN Arms Trade Treaty. Accused Underage Prostitute Solicitor & Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Bob Menendez thinks that voting to uphold the Second Amendment late at night is “irresponsible,” unlike his alleged late night activities with underaged girls.

Democratic leaders are complaining that their staffers who make $160k/year can’t afford to eat on Capitol Hill because of the sequester. Here’s a tip for those who are nearly destitute on more than $100k, on a very, very small fraction of that salary, even I could afford the Healthy Choice Turkey Breast sandwich at Congressional Liquor Store.

I’m sad to report that we accidentally participated in Earth Hour for at least a few minutes. See, Sebastian had to turn off the breaker to the basement so he can replace some plug faces that were black and clashed with our new color palette.

Obama’s weekly address was focused on gun control, including the gun ban that would likely cost his party any chance of winning outside of major urban areas for years.

Bloomberg is putting up $12 million to buy ads in pro-gun states promising that supporting legislation that will turn most gun owning families into felons won’t actually be a bad thing. The ads will supposedly run in Arizona, Arkansas, Georgia, Indiana, Louisiana, Maine, New Hampshire, Nevada, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

Unfortunately, as you read the article, it’s only from a subcommittee. Why? Because as Miguel notes, she seems to be her own military-industrial complex. Given she has previously held a concealed carry permit, and carried a firearm, it’s already pretty well established she’s a world class hypocrite. This just adds some icing to the cake.

Felony Aggravated Menacing and Reckless Endangerment

Just among a few of the charges Jill Biden could face if she follows the advice of her husband. I’d much sooner try to teach a woman how to shoot an AR-15 than a shotgun. Self-defense rounds for shotguns are brutal. If short-barrled shotguns were less regulated, I think they’d make fine home defense weapons, but every shotgun I own is far more unwieldy in a small house than any carbine I own. Not all of us can afford to live in a house as big as Joe Biden’s.

Aimless Politicians

Jacob notes that Andrew Cuomo is considered “adrift” in his second term. Yet another example of the fact that gun control is a refuge for scoundrels. It is a way to look like you’re doing “something” without actually having to do anything. It pleases those rationally ignorant who demand that something be done, and the rabid dogs who demand gun owners be punished for their backward ways. But there’s one thing they don’t count on, as Jacob notes:

A lot of people still do not understand what was passed into law and when they find out they getÂ veryÂ angry. Â It is going to bite Cuomo and the GOP in the ass eventually.

Our people are at their most powerful when they are scared and/or pissed off. Even I’m sometimes surprised by the scale of the reaction. I’ve often told our opponents that you can’t weigh polls too much, because many of our own people are also quite rationally ignorant of the ins and outs of gun policy. When they come to understand the actual consequences, unintended or otherwise, they are often quote opposed to the very thing they may have said they supported out of ignorance.
