ABC News Story

I had my friend Jason record the ABC news story in high definition for me just in case we had a nice spread like we had with the CBS story a month or so ago. While the ABC story was poorly researched and entirely one sided, it didn’t have any goodies, and their evidence table actually had a few Kalashnikovs laid out on it.

Ryan reported on this story as well. It’s pretty clear ABC didn’t even bother to research what the Assault Weapons Ban actually did, and didn’t do, or bother to do anything other than offer John Timoney and his anti-gun pals, a forum to push their crap on a media organization who doesn’t know any better, and couldn’t be bothered to check.

UPDATE: I agree with Illspirit that it’s quite likely police were using these firearms before Timoney decided to push his agenda in the media.

Hunting With Black Rifles

Good article from an outdoor writer for the Minneapolis Star-Tribune on the use of AR-15s in hunting.  With a proper hunting legal magazine, there’s no reason I couldn’t hunt deer with my 6.8 SPC AR-15.  It’s a comfortable rifle to carry, and a comfortable rifle to shoot.  Hunting with a semi-auto isn’t legal in Pennsylvania, but in most other states, it’s fine.

Castle Doctrine Hubub

Uncle refutes some media myths about castle doctrine in Texas, and points out that the hysterical media coverage might be responsible for the incident in question:

Why would he think that a law that eliminates the duty to retreat instead justifies killing two burglars that were not an imminent threat to him and were not on his property? Probably because he heard that line repeated over and over by the anti-gunners in press coverage of the bill.

Maybe now it’s time to start being factual and doing research?  Nah!  Sensationalizing stories is easier and sells more papers.

Stark Difference

It’s quite a difference between the Philadelphia Media, which would love to see every gun owner get a knock at the door to turn them in, and doesn’t work too hard to conceal that sentiment, and the media in other parts of Pennsylvania. This Centre Daily article could easily be an NRA alert. Also this LancasterOnline article about archery bear season. I think you have to be a special kind of crazy to hunt bear with a bow. Finally, this article from Erie Times railing against the Governor’s bills. I think our governor would do well to remember that he’s Governor of Pennsylvania, not Governor of Philadelphia, and Pennsylvania is a state that loves its constitutional right to keep and bear arms.

CNN Follows in CBS’s Footsteps

Looks like CNN is busy printing Brady Campaign lies about “assault weapons” once again.

He lays the blame squarely on lawmakers who allowed the assault weapons ban to expire in 2004.

Designed to be fired from the hip, assault rifles such as the AK-47 can spray at a rate of up to 600 rounds a minute in full automatic mode. It is the weapon of choice for guerillas and gangsters.

I mean, why even bother to fact check?  John Timony also makes an appearance, once again.

More on PA Sasquatch

Some cable news coverage of our Sasquatch controversey on MS-NBC.  Keith Olbermann starts off, quite properly, making fun of this case, and stating the PGC’s position on the issue, but then presents a completely one sided interview which holds open the possibility there’s something behind this.

The Pennsylvania Game Commission’s statement on this: “There is no question it is a bear with a severe case of mange” should have been the last word on this.  But I guess a good bigfoot story was too juicy to pass up for the main stream media.  I’ll take the word of PGC biologists over Bob Kiviat or Keith Olberman any day of the week.

Philly Media

I’ve documented many instances of the Philadephia media being vile, but this is a whole new low. There’s very little that’s worse these days than the local television news programs, especially in this town.

UPDATE: The officer involved in that shooting didn’t make it.
